Hi guys!
Now that UPPERTALE is done, I want to discuss the meaning of UPPERTALE and why the story is the way it is (time travel and all that), as well as some other things.
- SPOILERS AHEAD! -
Have you noticed throughout the game there isn’t any NEW threat at all?
Like, Flowey doesn’t have a new plan or anything like that. Everything is normal, and danger only occurs when you go back in time, and in the genocide route, you’re the one killing everything. You’re not trying to stop anyone or get to any goal, you’re just killing everyone for no reason.
Why is this?
Well, in UPPERTALE, the only real threat is you.
In pacifist or neutral, you’re the one going back in time and changing the ending. In genocide, you’re the one who kills everything and destroys the peace the monsters have established.
You’re the only thing that can ruin this world.
I realized that UNDERTALE didn’t need to be continued at all, and trying to continue it was just stupid. I took this into account and made the story sort of revolve around that idea. There’s no need for it to continue, and continuing it puts the world more at risk of destruction.
So that’s why there’s time travel, because you now have the power to change the timeline and ruin everything. You just got lucky and it ended up nearly the same.
Did you notice that Alphys didn’t know what you were talking about in the end regarding getting her the picture of her and Undyne? This is because when you changed the timeline by being there the scene where they were about to kiss never happened, therefore she wouldn’t have asked for it.
Well, now hopefully you understand why I chose to make it this way. Some people might find it stupid but it’s actually pretty interesting in my opinion.
Alright, now on to some other things!
I’ll go over some common problems and attempt to try and give an answer.
My browser says that UPPERTALE might harm my computer!
It won’t. It’s just your antivirus being overprotective. UPPERTALE is not a virus. I hate malicious software and I would never do anything like that.
Crashes on startup with error: “Fatal error: out of memory”
That has not happened to me and I have no explanation for that at all.
Perhaps try to troubleshoot it’s compatibility (right click and select troubleshoot compatability) and see if that helps. Otherwise, I do not know.
My game does weird stuff like starting me off in different rooms than it should.
Please, I cannot stress this enough, if you have ANY saves from the old version of UPPERTALE (by this I mean the ones before the new one that was released on the 21st) please delete them from your Uppertale folder in the local appdata of your computer. The game reads the old save files and might confuse itself on where to start the game. If you’re not sure just delete all the files in the Uppertale folder and just play it again.
Lastly, I just wanted to point out that I know there’s a mistake in Sans’ dialogue at the end of pacifist but I’m not going to wait another 5 hours to upload a patch that just adds in one word! xD (I live in a place with poor wifi which is why it takes so long.)
Well, I do believe this is probably the last news post I will make on UPPERTALE.
Thanks for all of the support. It’s been a very bumpy ride but we made it! :D
I hope you enjoy or have enjoyed UPPERTALE.
I’m now going to start working on new, original projects!
