Welp, would you look at that? Another review, this time on a fnaw fangame. I actually planned on reviewing all of Tagey's fnaw games (except cre, 'cause it sucks balls) since Cabin Fever 2 came out.
The reason I never got around to it was because I really wanted to finish reviewing the official fnaw games first and then talk about its fangames later. But now, those ones are on indefinite hiatus till I'm done with Tagey's games and do a bit more reviews after that. But beside that...
Sup, fellow FNAF no-lifers, and welcome to Gambling: The Horror Game! We're reviewing fnaw High Rollers 'cause why wouldn't we?
High Rollers was made by EpicTageyGames, or just Tagey. Tagey has been making fnaw fangames since 2020, making him one of the OG fnawers. And we're gonna review all of his fnaw games, except Remix and Cre.
So, without a further ado, let's gamble our entire life savings and become homeless!
______________________________________________________
Something kinda neat is that you can check out the game's wiki and game page in the first screen.
I just really wanted to mention that... um, mode select time!
Yeah, we have more than one mode, just like FNAW 2, except these ones are actually good!
In case you're wondering, yes, "Activate Windows" is always going to be there for most of the time. I'm sorry
Also, on the top right, the mode select menu shows you the time, which is neat, I guess? idk why it exists, but hey, it's there.
Oh, and for this part, we're only reviewing Standard. Full House has enough content to have its own review, so yeah.
Anyway, menu time! (for Standard mode)
It's absolutely nothing special. Let's just get on with the game. We start story mode, and BAM! Lore jumpscare!
Read it if you want to get the deep fnaw High Roller lore, or don't. It really isn't important.
Time for the... phone call cutscene?
Instead of having the phone call play while you're in the office, it plays in a cutscene, which I actually prefer a lot more.
Anyway, the phone guy talks about Wario and others going missing, but they're still going to run the casino to keep scamming more and more people.
The most important thing he tells us is that we have 10 chips, and we can use them on the slot machines. If the machine lands on hearts or spades, it'll just make a loud sound, but if it lands on diamonds or clubs, you'll get some extra poker chips.
The phone guy wishes Wario and his friends are okay, which we obviously know aren't. He wishes us good luck and hangs up.
well it's office time!
Ok, it's not really an office; it's just a random place, but whatever. Who cares
As you can see, we have our camera monitor and some poker chips we can use on the slot machine because we're a money-hungry bastard.
Let's talk about the slot. If it lands on hearts or spades, it'll just make a loud sound, which is very important.
If the machine lands on clubs, you'll get your poker chip back. If it lands on diamonds, you'll get 3 extra poker chips. When the machine is rolling, you can bang on it to force it to stop on hearts.
you got all that good
on night 1 wario becomes active with a brand new design
When he appears in your room, you have to land on either hearts or spades to scare him away and get him out of the room.
And yeah, that was the entirety of night 1; honestly, pretty decent so far. Let's see what else this game has to offer.
Oh, and whenever you beat a night, you get to play some billiards.
You use it to unlock skins for your little slot machine thing. Yeah, night 2 time
Oh, would you look at that Wario and the others did die What a shocker
In the phone call, Phoney says how they're gonna keep the place running to honor Wario's death. Yeah... in your dreams.
WE (the player) tell Phoney that we saw Wario, but he doesn't believe us, cause of course he doesn't. Phoney also says that they installed an alarm in the basement because they kept hearing noises in there. He tells us good night and hangs up.
on night 2 waluigi and luigi are active
Waluigi works the same way as Wario except he takes a different route on the cams when he's in the room. We have to land on either hearts or spades to get rid of him
Luigi makes a really obvious sound cue when we hear it. We have to go to the basement cam and send him away by pressing the yellow button.
And that was it for night 2. This has been surprisingly good so far, so onto night 3
Oh, hey, look! More lore this time about everyone's favorite gambling addict father, Bruno Gate.
Phoney calls again, asking us if we've seen a puppet thing anywhere. It was in the basement a few days ago, but now it isn't there.
He also tells us we have an alarm system on the left of our room, but it can only be used three times because of wiring.
Phoney tells us he's gonna check the cams to see if anything is in there before hanging up.
On night 3, Geno from Mario RPG becomes active. Look at that boi!
his mechanic is that when he's in the room roll hearts or spades
oh...... that's lame....... uhhhh oh yeah the alarms
Basically, when we're stuck in an RNG situation, we just have to press the alarm and bam! We're saved. Night 4 time :)
Oh, hey, look We get the epic lore of how Geno came to life How cool
It would've made a lot more sense if THIS was the night 3 cutscene and the Wario Man one was night 4's cutscene. But whatever.
Phoney calls again. This time he's scared! He says that he saw Mario and he got spooped, but he just stared at Mario long enough to make him bored, I guess. He tells us to look at Mario if he shows up and he should leave before hanging up.
in case it wasn't obvious enough marios active this night
if you see him in your room just stare at him
Yeah, that's it! No, that's actually it.
Okay, I think this is a good time to share my thoughts on the gameplay so far. It's pretty decent. The game mechanics are really unique. The designs are unique, too, and they fit really well with the casino style.
There are two problems, though.
One, the game is unbelievably pathetically easy Out of all the games I've reviewed so far, this is probably the easiest one. So far, it just takes such a long, long time for anyone to actually move around if you die in the game, you either have a huge skill issue or you're a game journalist.
now the small one
The game is a tiny bit rng with the slot characters, but that's really it. Night 5 time!
In the phone call, Phoney says that he saw Peach and used one of the machines. It landed on clubs, and she left. He tells us to land on either clubs or diamonds to get rid of her. We also have a coin slot thing at the main casino room. Oh, and Phoney fucking dies, of course.
this night obviously peach and yoshi are active
(why does he look like a mafia boss)
phoney already said how peach works so i'm not gonna repeat it
Now, Yoshi just like Luigi. He'll make a sound cue when we hear it, go to cam 2, and press the coin slot button to send him away.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the post night cutscene of all time
We see the epic characters Wario and Bruno Gate arguing over the Krabby Patty secret formula. Bruno calls Wario a "fatso" and Wario gets pissed. He punches Bruno.
Bruno does what any other sane person would do and stabs Wario.
and bam wario fucking died!
UHHHHHHHHHHHH night 6???????
night 6 is completely different the lights are off and the slot machine is broken
only one character is active that being the mentally unwell man himself bruno gate
his mechanic is that when he's in the room you gotta pull the cams up
We have to do this for 6 in-game hours for the whole night while being forced to hear him have a mental breakdown and break glass.
This might genuinely be the worst night 6 in any FNAF fangame ever. Seriously, in what timeline is putting the camera up for one character counts as good gameplay?
the only other really bad night 6 i can think of is post shift 2 cause you know stage 05
the reason bruno looks like.... THAT is because of our current situation we just see him as a more horrifying monster
beating night 6 gives us another equally funny post night cutscene of wario fucking killing bruno
and bam he's fucking dead too!
ok one last thing before final verdict custom night
Just like the rest of the game, it's piss easy. We have 20 chips, so we won't be running out any time soon. At 3 a.m., it becomes night 6 again. So it's even easier! Peak game design, right there.
Beating the max mode gives us one last cutscene where Bruno realizes, "HEY! Murder's bad!"
so then he goes to apologize fnaw 3 style ok finally it's over
final verdict
So, what are my final thoughts on this mode?
It's definitely good, but there are some major flaws. For the fourth time, the game is piss easy, even a baby could beat it. Night 6 is still really fucking bad. The phone calls could've been a lot better. Also, hot take: the graphics really don't look all that great. I know this is an early fnaw fangame, but still. Thankfully there's a lot more good than bad, so because of that, the game is getting a 7/10 from me.
Thanks for reading and I'll see you all in part 2 where we talk about "Full House."
