There needs to be a remake/revival of Sweet Dreams

-

So, I know this isn't the kind of post I would put onto Game Jolt, but I've been indulged to tell you guys what I think about one of my favorite fangames ever, Sweet Dreams.

Sweet Dreams is a FNaF fangame that was supposed to either be a reimagining of or a remake of FNaF 4, and the game itself looked amazing to the eyes of many. FNaF fans and even YouTubers such as @FusionZGamer were covering the game, and reasonably so. The game had a strong following, a strong cast of characters, and an interesting concept to easily reel in new visitors seeing the game for the first time.

But then, no news, no nothing, for (at the time of writing this) close to 3 YEARS, and "news" is an understatement. The last post ever made was by @TheManiacMartian , saying in his post "Hi" and that was it, nothing else. Nobody knew what really happened to the game.

(also before continuing this, HUGE shoutout to Pretzagon on YouTube for your amazing video covering what happened to Sweet Dreams, check out that video here if you don't want to listen to me babble: The Cancelled FNAF 4 Remake - YouTube)

Until the developer @Luiske posted this over to a Discord server,

22272363-hmgbmaj4-v4.webp

He never publically stated this either, that's because he's not even active on Game Jolt ever anymore, you want to know what bro does now? Take a wild guess. He makes porn, FURRY PORN on Twitter. (don't ask how I know that)

So, I don't even think he cares anymore, he's off doing his own thing.

But this news, going back to it, was kind of disappointing, the dude had so much potential, and it is just thrown away. But this kind of gave me the motivation to dig deeper into what really happened and why it was canceled in the first place.
So with a little help from watching Pretzagon's video and reading up on the wiki, here's a little synopsis of what happened.

@Luiske was a rather self-centered guy working with a team of people. The game development itself was presumed to be going well, but the main developer would frequently shift ideas without talking to his team about it, sometimes even gaslighting those who said that was never the intended plan, and this obviously isn't fun to deal with, especially when you're working countlessly on a FNaF fangame without getting paid. To counteract this, he would also be kind of dickhead to his team and couldn't take criticism like a little bitch. (get mad lmao) He would also show shit WAY too early and would claim that the game was his, meaning he could do WHATEVER he wanted with it. And obviously, with this kind of toxic dynamic when working on a game, it's no secret that it would just end up getting canned. Whether that be from team members leaving, the developer wanting nothing to do with the game, or just any of the above.

(by the way, BIG shoutout to Jack303, one of the devs THEMSELVES for saying this shit onto the wiki, it was great to read through!)

And that's about all the information I got regarding the reasoning. But even then, it's kind of sad, cause the concepts shown on the wiki are amazing, and really makes me wonder how it would've all been incorporated, starting with the office, or attic, being the main gameplay loop.

The setting for the main gameplay loop looks amazing, I love the idea of it! I've always wondered what the mechanics for each enemy would be. Speaking of... Here are the "Dream" enemies for the attic!

These are EASILY the coolest enemy design I've ever seen for a FNaF fangame! The modelers did an amazing job of capturing the uneasy feel for them! The idea of them being big, monstrous, decrepit stuffed animals are awesome! It kind of makes me wish Scott did this for FNaF 4, since it just makes so much sense when you think about it!
Along with the main game itself, there were other things added in to go with the nights (most likely) being cutscenes, secrets, and most importantly, transmissions.

Transmissions were supposed to be in between minigames after beating a night, and from what I've gathered so far (plus some general guesses) there are supposed to 5 intermissions, and only around 4 ever got ideas done for them, it is unknown if anything such as modeling or gameplay was ever done for the intermission. Here is what I've gathered about ONE of the intermissions, since it is the most complete out of the others.

Intermission One:

"Childhood" enemies

Living Room (where the night would've taken place)

Other Teasers:

Another part of the game that I think is insanely creative. The enemies are based on the FNaF 4 Crying Child's toys, and they look terrifying! It is something so simple but greatly thought out as well! Personally, I think the location for where they attacked could've been different, like maybe a Bedroom, but the living room works out as well!

The other intermissions were most likely not even close to finished or started, the next one closest to being done would be (I believe) intermission two, with the "Windup" toys! They were basically the toy animatronics but as scary-ass windup dolls. If you wanna read more about this, please go check out the wiki here, it's very interesting to go through

And even though I didn't show a lot in this post, I hope you guys think the same thing that this game NEEDS to be brought back. Different developers, different goals, one great game! I've already thought of ideas on how this game could be played out and depending on if I or anybody else feels obligated enough to bring it back, it just might work! We could revive this amazing fangame! But what do you guys think? Should it be brought back? Let me know what you think!
