Hello Game Jolt users!
First off, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this article and check out my game! Knowing that people enjoy my work is what keeps me going as a game dev!
Secondly, I have some exciting news to unveil! SQUAM: ADAIV is getting a major update. It’s going to be so big that I feel comfortable giving it the “Gold” title! I’m going to try to work as hard as I can this week to get it out as soon as possible, but in the meantime, I would like to entice your gaming appetite by teasing some of the new features that will be in this update.
CONFIRMED/ALREADY WORKING FEATURES:
Support for multiple resolutions! Players will no longer be forced to play the game in a small 640x480 box. The game will auto-detect the recommended resolution for the player’s monitor, but there will be an option to define the resolution manually as well. The HUD and menus can also scale to work with new resolutions! As a result of these changes, high-res textures should look much better on high-res monitors.
Better hitbox detection, specifically for being crushed! No longer will players be squashed and killed by doors or random edges.
Improved swimming mechanics. Players will no longer feel trapped by the few pools of water in the game. Tapping along the edges of land is no longer required, and it’s much easier to simply swim right out of the water. Also, the water texture has been refined to look more like a solid sheet of liquid than a seam-ridden quilt. This looks nicer and reduces the texture size tremendously.
PLANNED/IN THE WORKS FEATURES:
Game Jolt trophies! That’s right, players with registered Game Jolt accounts will be able to show off their dungeoneering skills with online achievements! Trophies of all colors will be unlockable by accomplishing different tasks. HIgher-level trophies will also be hidden for increased difficulty!
Fixed moving platforms. Certain moving platforms randomly knock the player off at points in the current game. It’s a very mysterious issue, and I’m hoping to fix it with this update. If I can’t, I would at least like to redesign the parts of the levels that include these tricky platforms.
Complete gamepad support! The current version of SQUAM has some iffy, sort of working controller support. I plan on fully testing it, working out the bugs, and making it official. (Though, keyboard and mouse is still king in my humble opinion).
At least one bonus level! I mean, I can’t exactly call it a “Gold” update without adding in some real content, now can I?
That’s all very exciting, isn’t it? I’ll be putting up some screenshots later this week, so stay tuned!
I would also like to make a comment about the YouTube channel, GingeWegian. These guys did an awesome playthrough of SQUAM, even in its current janky, unforgiving state. They’re a great duo, and their videos are genuinely entertaining, so you should definitely check them out if you get the chance. I’ll be putting up one of their videos on the main SQUAM page at some point this week.
Lastly, as part of the state of affairs segment of this article, I would like to state that this update is not the only new thing that I’m working on. In fact, an entirely new game is in the works (and no, it is not a SQUAM sequel). It’s a very exciting new project, and I’m excited to be including the Game Jolt community on its development track.
If you would like to keep up with all of my development news and interactions with the community, be sure to check out:
Thanks again for reading, and I hope you will keep up with my work, as I think my upcoming projects will be a lot of fun for everyone!
