Update 1.4.0 - Difficulty Swapping!

If things get tough, there's no need to start from the beginning!


The big feature of this update is difficulty swapping! If you begin a file in "retro" mode, you may now switch to "newcomer" mode at any point. Please note that this conversion is one way. There is no bumping up the difficulty from an easier file!

Misc.

  • You may now swap the difficulty to "newcomer" from a "retro" file. This can be done from the "file select" screen.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where the boomerang sound effect would play for far too long.

  • Fixed a soft lock in Act 2 where the player could leave behind the Bellion, locking themselves in a pit.

  • Fixed a bug in Act 3 where Belle and all of the enemies would disappear.

  • Fixed a couple of background inconsistencies corresponding to Act 3.

  • Fixed a soft lock in Act 4 where the player could defeat the boss prematurely.

I apologize that this update came so soon after 1.3.2. Thank you once again to all of the new players! Feel free to reach out with any further bug reports and suggestions.

I was worried the "blockers" in INSECTILE would annoy players - but many cited them as the best parts of the demo!

So, I'm working on new blocker types today : ) Bees leave honey splotches and water skimmers have armor that pops like bubble wrap!

Okay, I do a color sketch for every INSECTILE before I commit to its design. I normally don't share them but LOOK AT HOW THE EARTHWORM TURNED OUT! DONUT!

I am SO excited for some of these new maps I'm making - It finally feels like I'm taking full advantage of that z axis!

I can't wait to see how this changes bug catching 🐝

I know scorpions aren't *quite* insects, but I am willing to make an exception for a super interesting shape. You also need a good mischievous-looking guy in a creature collector sometimes.

What other kinds of bugs should I add?
