Hey guys! Two updates two days in a row?? What is this?? A consistent update release schedule??
Soo like the title says, this time it's about the new Blocking and Parrying mechanics, but there's also some behind the scenes changes, these are kinda explained in game, but let's go more indepth here.
Before this update I just sorta put random values in the damage formulas for you AND the enemies, but now they work based on actual player stats! What that means is that your defense and your attack can affect how much damage you take and deal. This is mostly important because the BLOCKING mechanic depends completely on your Defense stat, let's explain the two new mechanics now.
BLOCK: By pressing the S key you will enter a guard state where your defense will be double than normal. So for example, if an enemy were to hit you with an attack that deals 7 damage, but your defense stat is 3, normally you would recieve 4 damage, but when raising your guard you will only recieve 1 damage!
But be careful, to be able to block you will need SOME charge in your SD bar, and blocking damage will also DRAIN your SD, so you can't block forever either... But when you can't block an attack, then there's something else you can do...
PARRY: By pressing the S key RIGHT BEFORE an attack hits you will perform a Parry. Unlike Guarding, this doesn't require SD, infact, you will EARN some SD, and even better, you won't take ANY damage, and you will also STUN the enemy for a little bit. The challenge is actually timing it, since the window is very small, and you also can't spam it, there is a cooldown in how quickly you can perform a Parry.
I hope these mechanics will help put an emphasis on the Sense of Determination mechanic, and keep the gameplay loop engaging.
