Mario has come to confront his sins, but it seems things won't go as planned...

Long ago, high atop the surreal kingdom of Subcon, Mario and Princess Peach were competing in a vertical race to reach the sky, propelled by the magic of power-ups and potions. Adrenaline blinded the hero; obsessed with maintaining his title and not being overtaken by the princess's agility, Mario made a reckless maneuver. In a desperate attempt to take the lead on a narrow hill, he pushed her out of his way. He didn't mean to hurt her, he only wanted to win. But the currents of the dream world were cruel: Peach lost her balance and plummeted into the infinite void, meeting a tragic end at the bottom of the abyss before the horrified eyes of her companion.

Today, the mind of the hero of the crossroads is utterly shattered. Haunted daily by hallucinations of the princess's tormented spirit in the darkness and haunted by the echo of a scream that never ceases, Mario decides to close this dark chapter once and for all. Breaking the seal of the mystical vessel, he returns to the exact spot where it all happened, ready to bury his guilt... unaware that the dream world holds onto traumas in twisted ways and that something awaits him beyond the mountain's peak...

SMB2: Subconscious is a short 2D creepypasta game based on Super Mario Bros. 2, inspired by Left Behind, Frozen Inferno, and Yoshi.exe. I worked on it for three days and it's finally finished. It might be updated in the future. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy it, as I put a lot of effort into it.
