//OVERRIDE_CORE//
//0VERRIDE_C0RE//
"Breach the mainframe. Corrupt the grid. Survive the purge."
Step into a neon-lit, 90s-inspired cyber-battlefield where two factions fight for total dominance over a hexagonal logic board. Take control of a relentless Virus spreading its corruption, or play as the defending System trying to purge the anomaly.
Based on the classic tactical mechanics of Hexxagon, //0VERRIDE_C0RE// is a fast-paced game of territorial control and chain reactions.
SYSTEM FEATURES:
Fierce Local PvP: Grab a friend and battle it out in hotseat multiplayer on a single screen.
Face The D4EM0Ns (PvAI): No friends around? Boot up the new Player vs. Computer mode and test your logic against two distinct rogue algorithms:
[ BRUTE_FORCE.exe ]– A greed-fueled, hyper-aggressive algorithm that strikes for maximum immediate grid control.[ A.P.T.//CORE ]– An analytical, forward-thinking threat that predicts your counter-attacks before making a move.
Tactical Warfare: Choose your side (play as the Virus or the System) and fulfill your ultimate objective in both PvP and PvAI modes. Will you completely overrun the mainframe, or eradicate the infection from the grid?
Sleek Cyberpunk Aesthetics: Glitching visuals, CRT-style neon glow, and smooth animations powered entirely by HTML5 Canvas.
Are you ready to initiate the override sequence?
How to Play
The game is played on a hexagonal grid. It features both a local Player vs. Player (PvP) hotseat mode and a single-player PvAI mode.
The Factions:
🔴 The Virus: Represented by red, glitching skull nodes. Goal: Corrupt the system. (Note: The Virus ALWAYS makes the first move).
🔵 The System: Represented by cyan, stable pulsing cores. Goal: Purge the infection.
Movement Mechanics:
On your turn, click one of your nodes to select it. The board will highlight your valid moves. You have two strategic options:
Duplicate (1 Hex Away): Click an immediately adjacent empty space. Your node will clone itself, leaving the original behind and creating a brand new node in the target space. This grows your army.
Migrate (2 Hexes Away): Click an empty space two hexes away. Your node will jump to the new location, leaving its original space empty. Use this to escape danger or infiltrate enemy lines.
The Overwrite (Capturing):
This is the core of the game. Whenever you place a node (whether by cloning or jumping), any opponent nodes immediately adjacent to your landing spot are instantly overwritten and converted to your faction. A single well-placed node can flip up to 6 enemy pieces at once!
End Game Conditions:
The match ends immediately when any of the following occur:
The entire board is filled with nodes.
One player's pieces are completely wiped out.
A player is completely boxed in and has 0 valid moves at the start of their turn.
When the game ends, the faction with the highest node count is declared the winner, triggering a cinematic post-match sequence.
Note from DEV:
Ngl, I only made this game because I was bored to death yesterday. 💀
It literally started as a quick way to kill some time—just me messing around with some hexagonal grid math and classic 90s puzzle mechanics because I had absolutely nothing better to do. Building this entire current release took me about 8 hours from start to finish. Though, to be completely honest, 4 of those hours were perfectly spent procrastinating and just spinning around in my swivel chair.
Still, things somehow escalated into a full-blown neon cyberpunk tactical warfare simulator with a custom audio engine and particle effects.
Welcome to the Early Access of //0VERRIDE_C0RE//.
Right now, the core mechanics (the Virus vs. System grid battles, the cloning, the jumping, the chain-reaction overwrites) are fully functional and highly optimized to run smoothly in your browser. Grab a friend, share the keyboard/mouse, and see who can dominate the grid.
Since this is an Early Access build, I'm still tweaking the system architecture. The biggest upcoming change will be completely ripping out the current audio and replacing it with a custom, unified soundtrack and SFX suite built specifically for this game.
Anyway, go play it, try to break the grid, and let me know what you think in the comments. Have fun! 👾
