I've only played up to the robot boss so far, but holy crap this is impressive. The various graphics effects are very well done; you've clearly eked out the most of GameMaker's capabilities. I love the fake 3D robots, especially the boss. I'm assuming they were made via sprite stacking, so it's baffling that the boss is so well-animated. I shudder to imagine how long it took to make that. Speaking of the boss, it was really tough and I beat it with only one living character, no remaining 1-ups, and only 1 Huppy left. Phew!
The character's music-based abilities are pretty clever. I wasn't paying enough attention during the initial tutorial so it took me a few minutes to figure out how to sing the puzzle in the graveyard, but it was pretty satisfying once I did.
The character animations are so smooth! Same goes for the overall movement engine. Everything is just pretty to look at.
As a longtime Chrono Trigger fan, I love the CT vibe. Can't wait to see where the story goes.
My only gripe so far is that it can be tough so figure out where to go. I read some dialogue a bit too fast and didn't know where I needed to go, so I wandered around for a while and eventually found my way to the graveyard by fighting through the factory. But hey, classic SNES/Genesis games left players to figure things out too.
As a fellow gamemaker, you've made me reevaluate my own work. :P I didn't know until today that GameMaker can use gamepad rumble. I've gotta look into using that myself!
So yeah, overall, ridiculously impressive. I will continue playing as I have "time." Get it? *bah-dah-ting*
I beat the scorpion boss and the robot boss. I really had to push myself to get there too, because there's REALLY LOOSE directions for where to go.
My main problem is that the game is just a rush through enemies, just treat it like a speedrun, there is literally no point in fighting enemies unless you are locked in with them, which makes their existence kind of pointless.
I fricking love your games, I cant wait for my download to finish so I can play RBT
Wow, Nuke, your game is great!
