What do you think?

Okay, so I had decided to give this game a try, after reading some of the comments and seeing both the negative and positive, I came into the game with mixed emotions, but high hopes, nonetheless. What was presented to me, was something I enjoyed so little, I couldn't bring myself to go any farther than getting off the tram. The combat was a spam-fest of magic, the dialogue was forced and felt, not at all immersive, like a role-playing game is supposed to be, and most of all, the characters were just too unlikable, for their own reasons, mind you. I gave this game a try, and even though I wasn't given much and didn't expect much, I felt cheated nonetheless. It was a waste of my time and space on my computer. I think if this game is supposed to be of any semblance of an rpg, you would need to do a lot of work, un-break the combat systems, give all the characters and their personalities a complete overhaul, and most of all, actually read what people had to say, and not just see that someone didn't like it and just do nothing but defend your game. It's your job as a developer to listen to people's feedback, regardless of whether or not, you agree or like it. You put it up for people to play and comment on, you need to be able to take the criticism that is, undoubtedly, going to come with it.

Because I had much to say, I put everything into a Google Document.

Gutterdelve is my first foray into game design. The cheeky bugger has already went through countless revisions and updates, the newest being a revamped soundtrack by Kevin MacLeod (Incompetech) and Blake (whatsacow). All the music is royalty free so future Let’s players should not have to go through the hell of having their videos flagged and muted!

Gutterdelve is a retro styled rpg heavy on story and narrative. The game has roots in psychological horror and a supernatural modern setting. The themes it addresses can be unsettling at times so please heed the disclaimer.

This interactive adventure was not designed to be an overly difficult rogue-alike akin to Dark-souls or SMT: Srange Journey. If challenging battles are your bread and butter it's advised you look at the more delectable alternatives Game-jolt graciously offers!

Synopsis

Ben O’Sheely comes from a family of semi-successful game designers and B-lister celebrities. Blissfully complacent, he lives the upper middle-class dream until it all comes crashing down when his mother commits suicide and his father spirals downward into self destructive alcoholism.

Troubled and in therapy, Ben tries to work through his issues and the last thing he wants to do is to return to the hometown harboring his painful memories. Yet when Ben gets a tram ticket and upbeat letter from his best friend Liam about a new “labyrinth-con” it seems like a good opportunity to have some fun while hanging out with his sister and old chums.

What starts out as a desperate last ditch effort to reconcile past grievances and rebuild bridges with past loved ones quickly becomes a nightmare as Ben and those closest to him find themselves hunted by monsters whilst trapped in a hellish pseudo recreation of their adolescent stomping grounds.
