Hello, my name is Fernando, I am 10 years old and I live in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. Like any other child my age, I really like video games. But unlike most, I prefer old games, those who bring me indescribable nostalgia. However, a recent experience marked me in a way that I will never forget.
It all started on a afternoon when I was playing Mega Drive with my friend Guilherme. We were bored of the same games as usual and decided to look for a new one. We went to the computer and found a different cartridge from a game called Pulseman, which we had not heard much. It seemed interesting, and the price was into account: only 5 reais. I asked my father if we could buy it, and he, even with a suspicious look, eventually allowed it.
A few hours later, the cartridge arrived. We ran to the bedroom and put the game on the console. But from the beginning, something was strange. Sega's home screen appeared, but the famous Jingle was in a more serious and slow tone. On the title screen, there was no standard music - just a static noise. I squeezed Start to move forward and came across a strangely empty stage selection screen where it was not possible to identify the phases. Without hesitation, we selected the first stage.
When we carry the level, a sentence appeared on the screen: "Landscape". The phase was a dark and surreal room. After walking a little, we saw a silhouette on my back to Pulseman. In interacting with her, a strange image emerged and disappeared quickly. But we managed to see two red eyes flashing before the screen darkens again.
When the image came back, we were in the city of Tokyo, but something horrible happened. The city was on fire, the flames consuming everything. Guilherme and I was in shock, but we decided to move on. Perhaps this was our big mistake.
As we walked, we saw Veil with an evil expression and a bloody knife in the hands. She advanced over Pulseman, who was brutally murdered with a shout of agony that echoed by TV speakers. On the screen came the word "burnt".
We went back to the internship selection screen. The first level was blocked, but the second had been unlocked. When selecting it, a new sentence appeared: "Color". The scenario was black with colorful platforms in red, green and blue, but the atmosphere was completely silent.
Exploring the phase, we find corpses of bloody enemies, scattered on the floor. After a while, the bodies disappeared, and a red sphere appeared. By touching it, the screen became black and a deafening static noise left the TV, forcing us to cover the ears. When the image came back, we were on the battle scenario against V.R.H. (Virtual reality hand). Pulseman looked scared, unable to move. The robotic hand approached and began to crush it, and a sound of bones breaking the room. Then the screen was black.
The internship selection screen returned, but Pulseman and Beatrice had disappeared. The title "Stage Select" was broken and dripped blood. We selected the third and last stage, which contained a terrifying phrase: "In Hope" ("Without Hope").
The phase floor, which initially looked like wood, was slowly turning into a surface of pixered organs and viscera, enough to leave us disgusted. Upon reaching the end of the level, a wall of thorns began to go down. We tried to escape, but it was useless. When the wall crushed Pulseman, a grotesque image appeared: Veil smiling malephicly, holding Pulseman's head, from which dark blood came, while a disturbing scream echoed through my room, seeming to come from something beyond TV.
With the dark screen came the "Game Over" along with Dr. Waruyama's family laugh. But that was not the normal laugh. It was evil, deep, that made our hearts beat faster. The TV and the console began to tremble, and suddenly two arms with bloody gloves came out of the screen and began the strangling Guilherme.
I jumped to try to save my friend, but I was thrown to the floor. After seven horrible minutes, the hands finally released him. But it was late. Guilherme was dead. I started to cry, and my parents, hearing the cry, ran to the room. Between sobs, I told everything that had happened. To my surprise, they believed in me.
I took the cartridge, and noticed something strange. Pulseman's eyes were completely white, and he had a sad expression. At the bottom, a blood red text appeared: "Rip" - "Rest in peace".
To this day, I fight against the memories of this night. Every day I have nightmares with those bloody hands hanging my friend. The cartridge is stored in the back of my closet, where I never drew it to touch it ...
