Oh man. I can symbolism the feck outta this. I love it.

It's sorta like a dream to me.
As soon as I saw the crosses, I suddenly got chills because it made me think of what the character must have done to cause everyone to fear him. Perhaps not slaughter a whole country, because since it's a dream-like setting, it can be totally exaggerated. But it's still unsettling. Perhaps he feels guilty for unintentionally causing pain and suffering.
Has he repented, but is still cursed to be shunned and wallow in the isolation? Or is he bitter, shutting out the world and making sure they fear him and look away?
It's one of those things that can be interpreted in any way the player likes.
