there are 2 components to an RPG Maker VX Ace game:
1. the launcher
2. the data
the launcher takes the data and runs the game. The launchers are identical and interchangeable, the data is all that constitutes a game.
the data may be encrypted (rgss3a) or just sitting in a folder

Yes, the launcher is missing, but it don't matter!
You may play pretend that Lisa needs to be purchased on Steam to play this, but that's just not true. you can grab any Game.exe launcher from anywhere and this will work.
so if i never gave mr yostin his canadian dollar, i can just download this, download lisa the vegaful, put Game.exe from Vegaful into here, and bing bang wahoo, the game fucking works

LISA: Desolate Expanse is a fan expansion/rebalance created for the game LISA: The Painful RPG, originally released in 2013 by Austin Jorgensen(AKA Widdly 2 Diddly)
The mod's primary goal is to add some new features, and rework certain aspects of the game while still remaining true to its gameplay, narrative, and artstyle.
It is designed to be as Vanilla+ as possible that it can get away with, so you won't find any enormous additions or alterations here.
This mod originally released back in 2021, and has been updated to a far more polished version in 2026.
A core desire was to keep a lot of aspects that made this expansion good, while making it fit far more with the original game and removing a lot of unneeded fluff.

-Rebalanced status effects.
-4 new possible companions.
-A completely redone Pain Mode.

Q: How do I play this? There's no executable.
A: It must be installed on your installation of LISA: The Painful. It does not work without it, or the missing contents this mod doesn't have in its install folder.
Then, you must extract the contents into your Painful installation using a File Archiver software of choice. (WinRar, 7zip, etc.)
Click yes to overwriting your files and you should be good to go!
As long as you see "Desolate Expanse" in the name of the Application Window, you should be okay.
Q: How do I uninstall this?
A: It's heavily suggested you make a backup of your files before installing it. Alternatively, you can verify file integrity on steam to revert back to the original build.
Q: I prefer the older build. Is it possible to play the last version before 1.2?
A: The download has been left up for those who may prefer the earlier version. Same installation instructions apply.
Q: Is it okay to install this during a run of the game?
A: You'll find several things are broken if you do so. Start a fresh save.
