Thorn

THIS IS NOT A FULL GAME!

Thorn is a 2D sci-fi sidescrolling shooter inspired by legendary games such as Metroid and Megaman. We made this demo as part of our degree project at the University of Hertfordshire. It does have a few glitches and bugs (mainly with AI), but I assure you'll still enjoy every bit of it!

The game begins aboard the stricken sand trawler ’Hercinia’. The ship has been attacked and subsequently infested by a hostile, seeminly alien species known as the ’Ichor’. You play as the main character Asara, a female adventurer on her quest to find out more about her Nemidian race.

Asara, along with the assistance of the ship’s Social intelligence interface ’Sii’ (pronounced Sai) has escaped the initial purge of the ships crew. as the intro scene begins, Asara finds herself in a corridor at the back of the medical bay, ’Sii’ informing her that the medical bay has now fully succumbed to the infestation. Asara is met with no other option but to fight her way to the hangar bay, and attempt to escape the doomed Trawler.

The game consists of 3 short levels and has a bit of exploration to it for those unfamilar with 2D sidescrolling games.

Controls:

Mouse: Look / Aim and shoot (click to respawn)

Mouse wheel: Weapon Switch

A: Move Left

D: Move right

Space: Jump

Esc: Quit

(How to install and play)

Install the game from UDKInstall-Thorn.exe.

After installing, go to where you installed it by going into binaries folder > win64 (or 32 depending on your pc) and select UDK.

To toggle fullscreen mode go to the UDKGame folder > config folder and edit the UDKSystemSettings.ini file using notepad, find the line "Fullscreen=False" and change it to "Fullscreen=True" .
