NinjaNic has give your many good ideas. Continuing with the general plan, you can take ideas from the Anno game for cellphones, its a good example for what this could be.
How am I supposed to select a building on a laptop if it has no scroll?
Wow! Much improvement in the second version! I like where this is going! But I'm guessing you cannot use the gold for anything correct?
Well, here's another suggestion: I'd think the gold should be able to be used to buy roads, to increase income (from trade perhaps) and farmland, to increase population faster. Also, you should be able to buy tree seeds to plant more trees.
However there is one glitch that if you leave your mouse off to the side of the screen, the screen scrolls away and you may end up losing (as in not finding) your world. This can be fixed by either having the screen stop scrolling, or having the world "wrap around" if you know what I mean. This isn't a major bug but would make the game a little easier.

Village builder is city building sim based off of games like civilization and cesar 3. Builds houses, farms, and more to make a productive metropolis from the ground up.

Version six is up! I added in bridges and the ability to create huge houses when you put four smaller ones in a square.
