Hey ya'll!
Been a while since I talked at length here, huh?
I've been busy with IRL and other projects -mainly AskFallenRoyalty over on tumblr. That said, for the last half month or so I've been hard at work with Angel's again.
Redone Intro
Here's a fun announcement: The intro is finished! All the art has been redone and reanimated using code instead of sequences. (which, frankly, as a GM feature it is still too buggy to use.)
(Do note the captions of the song will be adjusted soon. I'm aware of it's current issues)
There will be uploaded versions of this song with translated captions soon!
The song itself has been translated into German and French already. (Portuguese and Spanish will be finished soon). For Angel's I've made my own font, so I need to make the specific characters needed but otherwise I'm good to go.
Thinking on it, it might be more proper to make a Youtube channel just for Angel's in the near future.
I'm always looking for new team members! If you'd like to discuss joining the team to aid in translating or coding, hit me up in discord. (The public server is linked on the game's main page.)
Some brief sad news...
Now for the less happy news. I've been having a hard time with gamemaker as of late. The worst of it, my newest version of the game got corrupted. I have backups, but I did loose a few days of progress and handling the whole thing has put me on edge and I worry over gamemaker's stability and future potential loses. Now, I'll make manual back ups every time and commit to github more often.
I've also withdrawn all involvement with the UnderEvent team for personal reasons. No, it's not messy drama, so don't worry. We had a moral disagreement among other concerns.
Regardless, if I have time I plan on releasing a new trailer for the demo, which is also planned to be translated. But this most likely be after or close to when the demo releases.
The current production timeline should still yield a demo by the end of the year. It might not be as ambitious as I previously hoped for, it'll still be a quality product and show what the game will be like.
As I get back into the swing of things, I hope to be able to share more progress on things that are less spoiler or code heavy.
Currently, we're working on the general game mechanics and basic improvements.
Mainly, the menus as well as inventory. We're doing something special for that... but that'll have to wait until that's finished to be shown off! Ideally, by next month I can show it off.
Fight? I'd rather Sing!
I've replaced the overworld fight mechanic with the old music box concept.
If anyone remembers, Angel's Lullaby was originally going to focus around music as a core game mechanic. This is getting put back into the project.
You'll play music instead of fighting, encouraging team members to strike harder. You can collect different songs, each will have different effects on either your team mates or the enemy. It'll be an added element of strategy to the game, as the effects will vary on who listens.
A major reason for this change is to better account for the player's choices. I feel the Pacifist - Neutral - No Mercy method is... well, outdated isn't the right word, it's not reasonable or fitting. Neutral routes are complex enough to account for in an undertale game -add a party system to the narrative, and then you're accounting for the party in every plot instance regarding if you've killed or not. It'd be a massive mess.
The music element fixes this issue completely and adds a unique spin to the gameplay that I doubt any other fangame would do. I mean, it's in the title -Angel's Lullaby!
The game mechanic won't be overly complicated in itself, it'll be a simple rhythm minigame that replaces the fight button's action.
Miscellaneous
Now for some general update information.
The story is still going through some massive changes -I feel these are growing pains, and once they're settled and the game goes further into production and in the story, these kind of changes will stop happening.
The character Bloodwen went through a massive redesign. She's still a sheep but I think it'd be more fun to save how she's changed for the demo itself. (Plus, her new design needs some adjustments first, haha!)
Overall progress has been alright. Getting back into the project itself is a fun experience.
