Hello everyone, hope you had a beautiful Christmas and a happy new year.
2024 was quite a wild year, and too silent here aswell, but today we're giving all of you a status updates regarding various topics.
Outdated/Leaked build situation:
First of all, the leaked build situation, there is not much to say about that, it was solved really fast and efficiently, the decision to upload ourselves the leaked build was the best we could've taken, that way we avoid any possible malware from the leaker.
Once again we say that you should not play that build, the final product is going to be better in every aspect.
For those who are still playing it, remember: Everything there, attacks, dialogues and phase one as a whole is OUTDATED and does not represent the product we want to deliver.
After the leak there was clear that everything saw there needed to be changed, fortunately most of the content we planned to add didn't even exist when that build was made, so none of that was known by the leaker nor the one who provided that build to them.
What's New?:
For the most part we used the time to remake old assets, creating new ones or even scrapping some in regards of better replacements. This process took quite the long time, since we not only remade those just one time, as the good ideas started to pop-up we had to make some tweaks to the existing assets to make them fit.
Some of those changes or upgrades are the next:
-Main Character sprites are currently being reworked. As for now, new walk and run sprites are already done.
Temmie is going to be more present in our journey through "Our Home", expect to see more sprites from temmie at some point.
-Sans' dialogues were largely rewritten.
-Small details are being added to help with worldbuilding.
-Assets no longer fitting in the current vision are getting removed.
-Some assets are getting improved or tweaked a bit
Sans was improved in the panels to match more his appearance with the rest of sprites.
-Main tilesets were expanded and upgraded. ("Our Home", "Delta District", "Corridor")
All of these can be read easily, however, their impact is far more meaningful. Allow us to show you a tiny bit of the new stuff!
We all know "New Home", Undertale's last area and the capital of monster kingdom, however, we don't actually see how huge that place is, that's when the idea popped up, "What if we include a small portion of city in "Our Home"?"
That's how "Delta District" was born, as a small portion of the huge city that is "Our Home", we're going to be able to explore some parts of it, sadly, i don't think there's that much monsters left here and there to make this place as lively as it deserves...
Even if Sans' battle is still the main attraction of the fangame, the overworld aspect of the game having some content and love was also a good idea.
You've probably noticed by now, but the project's title has been change to "Unizone's Underswap: Distrust". We've been using that name for a while now, but thought it would be nice to make it "official".
Enough about the art, let's talk about some other aspects that are getting new stuff, we got some new tracks to share with you!
Unizone's UNDERSWAP: Distrust - Our HomeSince "Our Home" is going to be more than just a couple of long hallways, a proper theme to make the zone feel complete was a must. (Hope you like it, this is going to be played in ALL the area :])
This amazing track was made by Ann(Nahg)
Unizone's UNDERSWAP: Distrust - Cause And EffectA catchy and new phase 1 track! Something original, yet it doesn't lack the feeling you get when fighting sans!
Unizone's UNDERSWAP: Distrust Papyrus - CalcageddonWe take this track mostly as a gift, since it won't show up in the fangame, but it's still a banger nontheless!
Both tracks were made by Ester "Wicher" Timely!
Also the cool art for both of the thumbnails were made by Spells!
Complications and slow development:
2024 was quite the hard year, mainly on coding, since even if all art, music, writing, etc, is build up from the ground, without anyone that puts everything together, we're basically a comic. We spent the majority of 2024 with little to no progress regarding coding, that's why most of the art showed before are mostly mockups, even if all these assets are yet to be implemented, we wanted to show we know exactly how we want these ideas to look.
Let's not forget we're still people with some irl issues that also takes away time to work on this.
However, 2024 decided to give us a break and launxh is the one that'll help us glueing everything together!
We were lucky enough to find a coder as soon as we joined on Newhome Studios!
Newhome Studios is a group where you can partner your project and the people who gets interested in it can give you a hand, either sprites, music, writing, etc.
We want to thank you Newhome Studios a lot for the chance to work with them, everyone we've met has been so kind and cool, but above all, say thanks for the chance when we ran out of options, we surely got lucky there!
Before starting with the conclusion, something that has been frequently asked is "Why Sans didn't got his personality changed?"
or simillar questions regarding the same thing. The answer is: All this happens in OUR Underswap take, where characters don't get their personalities swapped, their stories and events in them changed, resulting in where they are now. Sans is Sans, he's just using a halloween costume.
Conclusion:
Even if 2024 was a bit hard regarding the development, it turned better by the end of it and there was a good start with 2025, we hope to keep this pace of development as much as possible.
Thanks everyone for once again, being here with us, we hope for everyone to have an amazing 2025, we will see again, i don't know if sooner or later, but we will, thanks a lot everyone.
