Monster Medals were added to the game in order to give enemies something to drop when defeated besides EXP and Credits. With this next update, these Medals can finally be given to the Hunter's Guild in Lowee in order to be exchanged for special items.
Towards the end of Chapter 5, you were allowed to choose 1 of 3 Augments meant for either Nepgear, Blanc or Vert. Equipping that Augment turns the basic "First Aid" skill into something more potent and more thematic with that character's skillset. Access to these upgraded skills will be the main incentive for players to delve into this feature.
This Crafting screen pictured above is how you will normally be able to obtain these Augments. Crafting each skill-changing Augment requires a certain number of medals, money, as well as a Core Template (which you wil also need to craft). Once you have all these components, the Augment is now yours to keep. Don't forget to equip it! They won't be upgrading anything by just sitting around in your Inventory!
Here is a list of skills that can be changed by Augments:
All basic elemental magic Skills
All "Hyper" elemental magic Skills
"First Aid"
Neptune's Chest Buster
Nepgear and Vert's Venom Point
Keep in mind that the upgraded skills won't be the same for every character. For example, Nepgear, Blanc, and Vert all know "First Aid", but each have either own upgraded versions in the form of "Quick Repair", "Tetra Eisenwand", and "Sagewind" respectively. Likewise, even though Noire, Uni, and Ram all share "Hyper Flame", their upgraded versions will be different from each other! As of now I'm still undecided whether or not adding more skill-changing Augments are necessary.
Finally, a preview of one of Ram's upgraded skills: Comet Rain!
