Over the past few days I’ve been thinking more deeply about how this project will move forward, and I’ve decided that the game will be developed primarily in Spanish and English. For now, no additional languages will be included, although in the future I plan to add Portuguese and Russian.
Regarding the visual aspect, I decided to use a hybrid style between 2D and 3D.
As a reference, I’m taking the classic style of Five Nights at Freddy's, which uses pre-rendered images to create environments with a strong sense of depth. Instead of using full 3D models directly, I would use hand-drawn 2D illustrations with shading and volume, mainly inspired by the visual style of Five Nights at Freddy's: The Silver Eyes, but integrated into 3D environments.
Games such as Cult of the Lamb, Limbo, Hollow Knight, and The Binding of Isaac use 2D graphics with depth layers, lighting, and visual effects that give them a 3D feel, similar to Bendy and the Ink Machine (which is the main direct inspiration for this project in the graphics-only). This is something I aim to replicate and expand on.
On a technical level, 3D backgrounds and environments would be used, onto which the hand-drawn 2D illustrations would be integrated, creating a world with real depth while maintaining an illustrated art style.
Regarding the devlog title, “Devlog #2 – Help Wanted,” I currently don’t have as much experience with 3D modeling as I’d like, so it would be a big help to have someone from the community who knows how to use programs such as Blender or Cinema4D. Both would be more than enough, since an extremely high level of detail is not required.
It all depends on how the project develops.
