I know, I know. I've expressed before how I'm not too much of a fan of devlogs, especially as of recent. I don't really like the pressure that comes with it, as there's occassional the person or two who ask.. "WHERE'S THE GAME??? OOOOO".
BUT I can't just leave you all completely in the dark on the state of the game, so I thought I'd take an opportunity to show off and talk about the progress so far on Baldi's Basics MV v2.0.
So far, the update is going really well and looking very promising, I've managed to make plenty of optimizations to make the game run smoother, along with simplifying a lot of different systems which previously caused severe performance and/or NPC issues.
Some new items have been added, with older ones being rebalanced, and general rebalances to the formula of the game have been made. The biggest of these rebalances being..
An item limit of 3 being introduced, to align better with the original game.
Mathematician Difficulty and "FUN" Mode being entirely removed, as the other 3 difficulties on Classic (formerly known as Schoolhouse Mode) have been rebalanced and made more difficult.
Saving being entirely removed. Saving and loading was causing a lot of different issues, mostly with performance and NPCs. This is the main reason that Mathematician Difficulty and "FUN" Mode were removed and Easy, Normal and Hard were all rebalanced, as no saving was the main gimmick in these challenges. Additionally, Death Mode made "FUN" Mode obselete as "FUN" Mode's gimmick was already present for all NPCs in Death Mode.
There is still quite a bit to add before this update is complete, as I've mostly just focused on updating visuals and mechanics, with little animations and polish here and there. There are still plenty of rebalances and other adjustments to make, along with extra mechanics to add that're exclusive to specific modes (I'm looking at you NULL Mode).
I hope you guys are looking forward to this update as much as I am, I've been really enjoying coming back to this, It's been really fun finding genius and ridiculous ways to solve problems that plagued me during the original development cycle of this game.
I'm still technically on hiatus, at least socially. However, development right now is in full force. I'll find a time to come back properly and finally rebrand, probably towards if not at the end of developing this update. Stay tuned, and I hope you're all excited!
