Switch to high definition render pipeline
This week’s focus was on the switch from the builtin to the high definition render pipeline (HDRP). I’m happy to say that the majority of the work for the render pipeline switch is already done. The game is fully functional and now runs on the new pipeline. The performance is not as great as with the builtin render pipeline but still in an acceptable range. Since I have not optimized all the different systems for the new pipeline yet and also haven’t made use of all the new possibilities of the HDRP I’m hopeful to get fairly close to the original performance I had before the render pipeline switch. I encountered a good amount of challenges ranging from small to large throughout the conversion but always managed to resolve them in a reasonably short amount of time. A few systems still have not received their upgrade yet but those are only systems that are almost guaranteed to not cause any troubles. With everything going much smoother than I expected I decided to focus on the pipeline switch completely for this week. This means I didn’t get to work on the smaller tasks like the improved biome distribution I talked about in the previous devlog. I will likely also take at least half of the coming week to get all the different settings in order and visual quality to where I would like it to be. This would allow me to not have to split work as much and deliver updated visuals in media, steam etc quicker. If everything goes well I will be able to showcase the new graphics quality in next week’s devlog.
Notable tasks this week:
Conducted majority of the switch to the high definition render pipeline (HDRP)
Wishlist on Steam
Join the Discord
That’s all I got this week. I hope you are all doing well.
Stay safe out there and I’ll see you next week.
