Fairyfail is a cute looking game (a clear parody to fantasy), and was also a bit hard for me to review, and the main reason for that is that the game is actually multi-player only, although you can play alone, and that way I could try things out a little to get the global idea.
Now I only played the demo, in which you only got one area. The full game features a lot more of those (I think).
The idea behind the game is simple. You can play with up to four players and each must have their own gamepad connected to the computer. I do strongly recommend to connect your computer to a TV or something so you can all play from the sofa, or something like that.
Then each player can chose to either play a knight with a food addiction or a princess with an alcohol problem. I tried them both, and the game does not get harder or easier as far as I could see. And then each player can put one trap in the level. And then all players can try to race to get the magic sword, the player who gets it wins the round, but here's the rub. The sword is located on a spot that you can with the default level design not reach. The traps you place can be used to reach the sword if placed correctly, and one player will have to or the level is not winnable by anybody, still you may also go to make the level harder to win hoping to mock the others, but keep in mind that you will also have to get past your own traps. So making the level easier or harder both have their pros and cons, since traps that help you also help your opponents.
After all players died or if one of them reaches the sword some points are counted and a bar fills up. The player to first fills up their bar to the max wins altogether.
I guess this is one of those games that you must only play when you have great confidence your opponents are able to accept their defeat, but also to be nice about their victory, and of course, able to laugh about their own failures.
