So I've had some people ask us some questions about this game - I'm here to answer them, spoiler-free.
WHAT DOES THIS GAME HAVE TO DO WITH FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S?
I encourage you to look at this game more like, say, Treasure Island (2020) rather than an explicitly FNAF-related fangame like Fredbear's Fright or Five Nights at Candy's. Those games share story elements, characters, and locations with the FNAF series - this does not.
This game sports a completely original story with zero relation to FNAF's story and characters. You can potentially place it in the FNAF universe if you'd like, but it shares no elements with it. This game is a fangame when looked at in terms of gameplay - mechanics are heavily inspired by the original Five Nights at Freddy's games, and the gameplay loop is very, very similar. Thus it can be classified as a fangame in the same way FNATI2020 can be - it shares gameplay, but features completely original characters and story.
WHAT "ACCESSIBILITY OPTIONS" DOES THIS GAME OFFER?
Good question. We tout the game's expansive list of accessibility options on the main page, and since they don't tie into the game's story or specific gameplay mechanics, I'm more than happy to share them with you.
Full Mouse, Keyboard, and Controller support: This game supports a litany of control options. It can be played in its entirety (including menus) with just a mouse, just a keyboard, mouse + keyboard, and even controllers. The game even detects what controller you use, and will display different button icons depending on your setup - be it a Switch Pro Controller, a Dualshock / Dualsense, or a normal Xbox One controller.
Volume sliders: All aspects of the game have independent volume sliders. Sick of having your eardrums burst whenever you die in-game? You can't mute jumpscares, but you can lower the volume to soften the blow. The game's expansive soundtrack, voice acting, sound effects - all of these can be adjust in-game and on the fly to suit your needs. Despite being common fare for normal games, this option is relatively sparse when it comes to fangames.
Optional CRT / VHS toggle: Since the game is stylized as an 80s slasher film, it uses a unique stylized display that replicates old television restrictions, including CRT color warping and VHS static. If this isn't your thing, you can turn these display options off completely, or even lower the intensity of it while keeping it active. We recommend keeping it on, though!
Extensive visual display options: Want a specific resolution? NO PLACE LIKE HOME supports virtually all displays. It'll run perfectly on an ultrawide monitor, for example - or a dinky toaster screen.
Extensive subtitle options: Subtitles are offered for in-game dialogue, cutscene dialogue, and even all sound effects, in case you are hard of hearing and cannot hear sound cues.
Disturbing content toggle: NO PLACE LIKE HOME is a more graphic story, and features disturbing content not featured in most fangames, including on-screen deaths, light gore, bloodshed, and animal deaths during pixellated minigame sections. These are an integral part of this game's vision, but we understand that they aren't for everyone, and we want everyone to experience this game. Switch the RATING mode from UNRATED to PG to remove / censor disturbing content* without compromising the story!
*Note that "disturbing content" covers gore, blood, and on-screen deaths. To specify, NPLH does not feature any kind of sexual content or implications. This is not part of our vision of the game.
DOES THIS GAME HAVE FREE-ROAM?
No. NO PLACE LIKE HOME does not feature any free-roam mechanics. The game runs in 3D and features a full 3D environment to traverse via the game's mechanics, but you cannot walk around the room as you please. While there are fangames that can do free-roam well, NO PLACE LIKE HOME doesn't need it.
The gameplay is Sit and Survive. Like classic FNAF games, you are forced to remain in a single location and defend yourself against various enemies, and this gameplay is separated into multiple Nights (though in this game, they're HOURS.) Please keep your expectations in-line here - we don't intend on making the Next Big Thing, or a fangame with 200 different mechanics and levels and environments.
WHO IS THAT HANDSOME MAN IN TEASER 1?
The Clown has no name. Names have no place here.
WHEN CAN WE EXPECT MORE TEASERS?
Be patient. And quiet. They listen for everything.
Thanks for your questions. We hope to provide more for you to see soon - in the meantime, remain in your homes and stay calm. If someone knocks, do not answer.
