First weekend almost passed

Well, so it turns out just about two days has passed on this contest, and I’m not entirely sure how we’re doing as far as time goes. But that’s also part of the experiment for us. So far we’ve got a working-ish tile system in the engine which is turning out to be quite flexible which is great. We’ve got the character moving around, although a bit stiff at the moment.
Our main issue so far has been settling on the gameplay. We have a vague idea as to what we want, but it’s turning out to be a bit of a challenge to nail it down. Initially the plan was to have the a creature in the middle of the level stretching out his tentacles to try to grab food, which in this case would be the player. The player would then pick up trash and other things to feed these tentacles till the monster eventually exploded from all the terrible things we’ve been feeding him. But neither of us are great programmers, and even though we had a solution for how to get the tentacles working, they looked really goofy once they were functional. so that idea has already been scratched.
Now we have a more elaborate plan as to how the game should work, its being mocked up quick to see if it’s any fun.
Tomorrow we’re both back at work however, so we’ll see how we progress when 10ish hours are lost from potential development time.

It’s been rather enjoyable so far and it’s going to be great to see other entries start coming in as well as seeing our own game come together in such a short period of time.

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!
