I’ve read the comments, I’ve watched a couple playthroughs, and I agree. Random Encounters are ANNOYING. It punishes exploration, it delays productivity and no one wants them in general. However, I cannot fully get rid of them. But I do have a solution.
As of the end of Chapter 2, there has been no reason for the various areas to NOT have random encounters. Forests and caves are naturally full of monsters, them fishies in the beach were pretty pissed, and computer viruses are indiscriminate. All the monsters so far have had reasons to appear in random encounters. Let’s change that, shall we?
From this point onwards, there will be 3 types of monster areas.
Random Encounter Area: The type of dungeons you’ve been seeing up until now.
Defeat-to-Proceed Area: The monsters in this area are visible and must be defeated in order to travel to a different area or progress the story. Once you defeat them, the area will be completely free of monsters.
Free Roam Area: The monsters in this area are visible and can be fought only if you want to. They will not block any areas or jump out randomly, but they might drop items that you need for the story to continue.
So yeah, random encounter areas are not being completely replaced, and they will probably still be the most common dungeon type. This is just being implemented to make the game more enjoyable. Chapter 3 is being redesigned to fit this change, and plans for Chapter 4 have been altered slightly. Of course this means another delay, but it’s all to improve the game!
