Hey. So I’m back into game development after losing interesting in the top down zombie shooter I started last year. Minimal is another top down shooter but I set a smaller goal - since I am a complete beginner - so there’s a greater chance I can acually complete it.
My idea was to create a minialist, casual cube shooter. As cliche as that probably sounds, I wanted it to look great and be pretty fun. For a first game, I can’t expect too much, but it’s the goal I set for myself.
I hope to learn how to set up achivements and stuff so I can upload the game here, to Game Jolt. If people really like the game, I’ll try to port it to Android TV or Steam. We’ll see how it goes.

I’ve been developing the game in Unity 4.6, but yesterday Unity 5 was released so I downloaded it and continued progress in the newer version… which is awesome. I may have went overboard on the visual effects, but I like it so far.
I started the game based off the Project: Survival Shooter tutorial series on Unity3d.com. It was a great resource in setting up playable characters, enemy characters, scores, etc. I did have to overcome some problems with the provided codes and overcome a few other obstacles, which, even though they were simple, I’m proud of myself for being able to figure it out on my own.
I still have to figure out a better spawn system. Right now, the spawn objects are child of the player game object, so when the player turns, the spawn objects also turn. It’s not a big deal, but sometimes the enemies spawn inside of buildings or outside the map. The reason for this setup, though, is so the enemy cubes always spawn outside of visable range. I don’t want random cubes appearing out of no where, haha.

My current goals are:
Game over screen with final score count
Set up a high score save system (locally or on a server?)
Camera animation when you get hit
Better gun shooting effects
Respawn
Powerups?
Let me know what you think!
