The gm(48):Endless was a 48 hour jam where developers needed to make a game using Game Maker. The theme of this jam was “endless”. There were many games entered in this jam, I recorded all of them in my video compilation series. Below are some of my favorites, in a random order.

Bojangles and the Endless Buttmen Amongst Other Things is a game about a potato man who is trying to save his kids from the evil Mr. Bossman. The potato man was just looking to feed people with his muffin gun, until one person had a fatal allergic reaction to the muffin. Mr. Bossman was in love with the deceased person and has stolen all of the potato man’s children, locking them into cells! This endless dungeon crawler puts you into a room with a random number of enemies. Some of these enemies are able to shoot at you and look like blobs, while others that look like butts run back and forth. You can shoot them with your muffin gun to destroy them. If the bullets or enemies hit you, you lose a heart. If you kill off all of the enemies in a room, you get a key to move onto the next round. This game is pretty unique with a great graphic style, but what takes it over the top is the story portion of the game - complete with hand drawn graphics and a narrator who is making things up on the spot. This game is both addictive and funny.

Life of a Box is a rage inducing box themed game that has you jumping forward. You control a little box which is is suspended in the air, always being pulled downward. You must make the box jump forward but avoid all of the other blocks around it. Some of these blocks move, creating more chaos. The screen itself is also constantly pushing forward, creating a feeling of urgency as you try to get your box as far as you can without crashing into anything. Once you do crash your box, you start back at the beginning. A faint blue box, quite like yours, mimics your last few tries. If you die before you did on one of your previous tries, the soul of your current box jumps to the new box, and you can continue from there as a rainbow box. This adds quite a new element to this ragey game and almost makes it seem fair. almost.

SPECTRALIZER is a chaotic game where you must avoid obstacles thrown at you. In this colorful game you are jumping around on a bunch of platforms at your feet. When you hit a section of platform the platform moves down, forcing you to jump up to move. Bullets start to come down and bounce around with you. You must avoid these while not falling in order to stay alive. At first the game is pretty simple, but soon lasers start to appear, the screen flips upside down, and even bits of your platforms will start to fall away. Through all this chaos you must try to survive for as long as you can!

Debug has you diving into your code. In this fast paced endless shooter, you are the programmer of a game, looking to work out the bugs in your code. As you go from room to room you encounter different enemies waiting to break your game. You must shoot and destroy the other ship-like enemies before they kill you. As you destroy them you gain talent points, which can later be spent on upgrades to help you go farther. As you get deeper into your code, deadlier bugs will start to crop up, so pick your upgrades wisely! Can you fix your game?

Rocket Rails is a super fast paced game that makes you feel like you are on a roller coaster. This 3D game has you gliding along a roller coaster track collecting coins. You must lean towards the coins to collect them, just like a roller coaster would make you lean left or right. There are also some bombs along the track - to make things interesting. You can either learn to avoid them, or quickly jump into the air. This game is sure to put your stomach into knots as you go faster and faster along the track!
