Jam Favorites: Indies Vs PewDiePie [Part 1]

Explore some of my favorites from the Indies Vs PewDiePie jam!

The Indies Vs Pewdiepie Jam was a huge game on Game Jolt hosted by PewDiePie himself! The theme of this jam was “Fun to Play, Fun to Watch” with emphasis on laughter. So far, I have played half the games entered in this jam and recorded them in my video compilation series. I am going to be playing the other half (and posting a part 2 to this jam favorite) after the Ludum Dare. The following games, in a random order, are some of my favorites:

Scream or Die is a game where the player plays as a man who wants to wake everyone up! Using a microphone (or a key if you wish to be lame) the player is to scream to complete missions in their home. Some levels require the player to annoy or wake up one person, but leave others alone. Other levels require everyone to be annoyed by how loud the player can scream. When screaming, a red circle appears on the screen showing who the scream is effecting. The player must watch their own face, to make sure that their head does not get screamed off. Sometimes, other characters in the game can scream as well, hurting the player. This game is loud and fun.

S’more Mayhem! is a pretty addicting game. The player plays as a marshmallow who does not want to become a s’more. To get out of this sticky situation, the player must jump, run, and avoid the person who is trying to turn them into a treat. Skewers fall from the sky, as do bomb-like chocolate pieces, as well as huge lines of chocolate across the bottom of the screen. The player must continue to dodge all of these things, while listening to strange and funny phrases. This game is also finished off with graphics only using the Indies VS Pewdiepie Jam logo colors, making it look really, really nice. This cute game is really fun, all it needs is a Gamejolt high score table!

Wrecker is a simple game where the player controls a wrecking ball that must destroy buildings in the city. The wrecking ball can also hit cars into eachother so that they explode. There is a time limit, however the player can collect clocks, as well as coins, when destroying the buildings. These clocks increase the time the player gets to destroy. There is also a percentage of how much of the city is destroyed. This game is, as I said, simple, but in being simple it is purely fun. There is something about watching all of those perfectly gridded building fall into cartoon-like fractured bits. Bright colors and fun music makes the game awesome.

Party Hard is a game about killing everyone at a party. This, I mean in the best sort of way. This game is challenging, it is hard, but personally, I played it over and over. The player must find party guests removed from other people, then murder them. If the guest is too close or can scream before he or she dies, the police are called and the player is arrested. The player can stab people to kill them, or do more subtle things like turning on a stove and or pushing a tree through a window. Sometimes, with playing the game just right, the player can almost frame the killing on someone else. This game is really fun in the weirdest way. The graphics are also amazing and very detailed!

Washed Out is a washing machine simulator like no other! Well, there might not BE another washing machine simulator, but that is besides the point. There is a lot more to washing clothes than putting close into a machine. First the player must open the washer door, hit the alarm, close the door once clothes are in, fill it with the right amount of water, add detergent, spin the washing machine, drain, and finally hit the alarm and open the door once again. The player can also earn money as they spin out some more clothes. I am expecting a dryer simulator to be just like this - amazing graphics, simple memory gameplay, and just weirdly addicting. Maybe I am just into weird games, but this game rocks.

Abelardo - Steakhouse Musician is a game about a dinosaur who is trying to work as a musician at a find dining resurant. The player controls this dinosaur, moving him from table to table to play music to the guests. To play the music, the player must make sure the piano is playing the same type of music as the table wants, according to the symbol above the table. Once near a table who wants music, the player must click the right arrow keys as they show up. For each table that the player correctly plays music too, the player gets some food. If the player runs out of food, they lose. The dinosaur also has a long tail and must watch out as to not knock down all the other tables or waiters. Without tables, there is no reason for the dinosaur to have their job.

Redslaughter is a game kinda like Happy Wheels, but much, much better. In each level, the player gets a target person to kill as well as a lost teddybear to find. The player controls a man on a skateboard, who must shoot his guns in order to propel the skateboard. The player must get the man over to the target and shoot them. Collecting the hidden teddybear is optional. If the player hits their head, or smashing against any of the sharp metal spikes, they die. This game is challenging and very fun.

Floorless Fortress is a challenging, colorful game where the player controls a small mouse in a castle. At first, the game is very, very easy, the mouse is just to get to the exit of the castle. Soon, however, it gets very, very challenging. Along with bits of the floor being missing, gargoyles start shooting rainbow bullets at the player. The player must try not to get hit or fall of the floor. I have not gotten very far in this game because I suck at it, but I really have enjoyed the graphics as well as the gameplay.

It Must Die is a pretty dang cute game. The player controls a little green guy who is being followed by the ghost. This little friend is annoying him to no end, following him all around. So, just like any normal person, the guy tries to kill the ghost. It turns out though, that the ghost makes spikes go away and is not affected by fall damage. After continue to try to run away from the ghosty, the player finds that maybe that ghost can help him after all…

Nitro Ned is a game where the player plays as an 8 year old boy who has swallowed some experiemental drug that might cause him to explode and wipe out the whole city. In order to stop that from happening, Ned must keep the rhythm while traveling through the city. This is quite challenging as the player needs to tap to the beat while going along and avoiding things that could potentially kill Ned. The mix of well made graphics, and funny dance moves really makes this game awesome.

Martin the Let’s Player is about a boy name Martin who wants to become a Let’s Player but needs your help! At first, this game is much like a point and click game, where the player must find the items that are needed to record: headphones, a microphone, and a controller. Once all of those are found, Martin must start recording. This takes the player into the real game, which is a rage inducing platformer. Watch as Martin’s face changes as the player attempts to beat the platformer.

Artificial is an amazing game that has four games and a story inside of it. At first, the player plays as a man who thinks that balloons are some sort of alien thing. So he feels the need to pop them all. This is a pretty easy task, but then another window opens up, one of an ambulance. This ambulance needs to be moved out of the way of other cars, while the balloons continue to be popped. The player must manage these two games, and listen to a pretty well done story of how they know each other. Over time, two more mini-games are added, as well as more story.

Virus Byte is a funky game where the player is to destroy viruses that are coming into their computer. These viruses come in waves, but each virus has a different way that it must be dealt with. Some are like bombs, that must be moved then can explode to destroy other viruses. Other bugs need to be clicked, clicked then dragged, or clicked multiple times. This game gets challenging fast, but is strangely addictive. Between the the graphics and the gameplay, this game is pretty well made.

These are just some of my favorites from the first 400, stay tune for my favorites from the other half, and check out some games for yourself!
