The One Game a Month is a monthly game dev challenge with an optional theme. This month’s theme was “Finish Line”. Many, many games are entered in the One Game a Month challenge every month. I decided to play all of the games that were entered in the month of October in my video compilation series. Below are some of my favorites, in a random order.
Pacer is a super fast, super colorful pac-man inspired game that has you racing around the level. Your yellow rectangle is super fast, able to move around the screen faster than you can really pick the direction. This adds quite a challenge to the normal pac-man game. Sure, you can cover the whole screen in a matter of a minute, but with dots that only slightly change color it’s hard to tell where you have been. Other rectangles also race around - so make sure you don’t crash into them unless you run into the giant dot! This game even has its own level maker, so you can design some levels of your own.
TypeSecurity is a simple but fun typing game. This game is about typing away all of the negative comments you are getting. With both a safe for work and not safe for work mode, you can somewhat choose the level of negativity that gets brought your way. As people walk towards you holding signs with hateful words, you must type out the word written. After you have typed out several people’s signs, you will move onto a new, faster level. If you are a fan of typing games, this one is very well made and quite fun to master.
Lizard Crash has you becoming a City Monster. You are a dinosaur who is looking to gain your City Monster License. In order to get this license, you must take a test. Your instructor gives you a list of goals which you must complete in a set amount of time, in the little city around you. Things like destroying buildings, military bases, and eating ice cream will allow you to become a city monster. As you go about, shooting fireballs and destroying tanks with a swing of your tail, keep in mind your goals. This game is also super fun to play with a controller.
The Bomb Squad Academy is a challenging puzzle game that has you defusing bombs. There are many different ways to defuse bombs: from stopping the power flow to the timer, to setting off a buzzer. You have to cut the right wires, hit the right switches and move the correct rotary switches. You must use your knowledge to figure out how the electric board functions, so that you can make the right decision on what to do. Make sure you do not hit the wrong thing, or the bomb might just blow up in your face.
