Hey ya'll!
So this game's updates are not going to be done on a schedule. I'll just report progress as I see fit, as progress marches along. The team has expanded in the last few days, so thank you to everyone who had applied!
New Team Members
I am no longer looking for musicians. Writers, Artists, and Coders are welcome. I'm probably going to close the applications soon, so get in while you still can lol
Spriter - @Thetoonhero4
Musician - @FG25
Writers - @Valor52 - @GalaxyGamer0214
Concept Artist - LightMoonCream
Assistant Coder - @jevilhumor
I am so so so happy to have everyone on this team.
Just look!!! at what has already been made!
-Pumpkin's base sprite was originally made by Thetoonhero4, heavily modified by me, and animated by Thetoonhero4
-Potential UI elements of Party Characters by LightMoonCream
Progress So Far
Jackie's (default) sprites are finished, with idle, walk and run states. Adding Flowey or expressions won't be hard. (Jackie will sometimes be less energetic. They're still a UTDR protagonist who doesn't emote on screen much.)
For right now, the game is built on my Angel's Lullaby mod for FutureGamer25's Top Down Engine. This means most of the code is already set up, though will need heavy modifications for this game. With Jevilhumor's help, I'm sure all the main changes to gameplay will be achieved.
Because this is built on top of Angel's, the current layout is 16:9 proportions Which, hm, I'm not sure I want that for this game.
For New Royals and Angel's, having a larger screen resolution made sense. Royals is a visual novel and need the space for the larger character portraits (being based on a webcomic and all) and Angel's is trying to imitate the feeling of a Next Gen installment.
As for this game, I'm not trying to do any of that. In fact, I like the idea of having more limited screen space, to add to the tension of not knowing what's behind every corner. I want a claustrophobic feel to the game!
But for now, here's where it's at.
The basic tileset is complete. The lighting system is in use. If I wanted to, I could already start building the rooms.
But, not yet!
I want some time to let the team settle in and get caught up to speed. While a lot of the project's worldbuilding has already been established as it was originally made for the canceled game Spookytale, there's still a lot that needs to be adapted to Underfell. This is not a Spookytale revival. This is me retooling concepts I made already, in an Underfell context.
Overall, the story needs work. I'm happy to have such a large base to work off though! I hope to have a proper outline done within a month or so. Heck, maybe even a script if I'm overly ambitious!
Ideally, I'd like to get a public test build out soon after the script. Nothing too ambitious, just a proof of concept.
See you soon!
