Unlike most Undertale fan games, Outertale isn’t built on GameMaker. Instead, the lead developer, spacey_432, created a custom engine called Storyteller specifically for this project. The game is epic, and the community has contributed incredible mod ideas, sprites, and story concepts, such as:
- Cool Sprites Mod
- Achievements System
- Alternative LV0/Bully/Chaotic Route DLC
- Baby Bone Workshop
However, there's currently only one programmer working on Outertale mods — me. Managing everything, from improving the translation system and fixing bugs to adding new features and implementing creative mod ideas, has become overwhelming. Although spacey_432 and forestfamily4 have provided occasional support, it’s still a significant workload.
That’s why I’m asking for help. If you’re a fan of Outertale and have experience in 2D HTML5 game development (particularly in JavaScript/TypeScript) or game engine development, your skills could make a huge difference! I’ll provide detailed instructions, explanations of the game’s file structure, and guidance on the build workflow to get you started.
Your contributions will greatly accelerate the development of Outertale mods and bring even more creative ideas to life!
If you’re interested or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
