Hello everyone! If you haven’t noticed yet, v0.7 is finally out. It’s uploaded seperately from v0.6.2 so you can still play the old version.
Here’s the full list of (almost) every change in the new patch.
In the process of making this I’ve rewritten pretty much all my own code, except for smaller utility scripts. This was the main reason it took forever.. but I hope you enjoy the end result!
General changes
Engine upgrade to Unity 5
Revamped the UI completely. The new UI scales better with screen sizes and is a bit less ugly.
All settings are now saved as .json files
The annoying stuck-in-terrain bug that was always in the game has magically gone away (I’m serious, I didn’t even try to fix it)
Look n feel
Upgraded most if not all objects to use physically based shaders, which means better lighting and reflections
Switched to linear rendering
Refurbished the lobby (it even has a couch)
Added neat screen to the lobby showing current match settings
Improved lighting in the menu, the lobby, Green Hill, Flame Core and Dusty Desert using baked lighting maps
The rainbow path in Rainbow Road now reflects the skybox
Gameplay
Controller support
Pause menu now actually pauses the game
Local splitscreen with up to 4 players (1 keyboard + 3 controllers or just 4 controllers). Note that lap records cannot be set in splitscreen
Drastically changed the camera behaviour - you can no longer use the mouse to aim your ball, instead the camera aims based on your ball’s velocity. You rotate the camera simply by moving in a different direction. The camera also aligns itself correctly when rolling on slopes. It’s still a bit wonky so any feedback is appreciated.
Lap records can now be set as Super Sanic - however they are seperate from normal records.
Limited the max lap count to 6 and max AI count to 12. (There is a top secret way to bypass this)
New content
Not much to see here! Busy doing all the other stuff. I will focus more on content in the future.
Added Bloze (based off Blaze the Cat)
Added Vactor (based off Vector the Crocodile)
Added an entire playlist of shitty midis to the lobby
Added a few new songs to the ingame playlist
Alright, have fun, go fast. As always i might have missed something here.
Of course multiplayer is missing, and needs to be redone from scratch.. so that’s the next step I guess.
