So the OGs have already seen a post mentioning this, so this is for the new followers:

While I would like to get GameJolt creator revenue here someday, I harbor no delusions of grandeur. ALL my games will be free to play.

Read article for context.

*Click here to read aforementioned post* but here we go:

I'm close to releasing what I would call my first "feature-length" game (by this I mean a game for which the average playthrough is more than an hour). It's a visual novel that sets the standard for all future visual novels I do. And you will NEVER need money to play them, cos the world needs more free stuff - and it's only fair since I make my content according to my vision alone.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

That being said, I'm not gonna call myself a saint or pretend my heart is "pure" so to speak. Like a lot of small-reach devs here, I too would LOVE to be in a position where I earned money here and reach a GJ creator status, open a shop and all of that jazz.

Since I had a fresh start when I first joined this site, I decided to view things realistically - mainly that even if I got to GJ creator status on this site, the revenue rate would not be enough to merit a full-time dedication to solodevving (I would still have to get a full-on day job to make ends meet). I would still have to cut some corners due to lack of time and resources, which would make my games even less marketable on top of my unconventional art style and chosen genre (fantasy/romance) being fairly unpopular with the general public (who appear to prefer horror and/or strategy games).

Don't get me wrong, as a broke and busy solodev, I still would want GJ creator status because I could always use the extra change from charged stickers to help keep food on the table. I would only want to get to that point for being unapologetically myself with my content; so while I do as much as I can to promote and increase my following, I really don't care how long it takes.

Even if I do get there, I still insist on putting my best foot forward on games that you will not have to pay for. I really want to make games that I am proud of, regardless of whether anyone likes them or not. I really don't want people to pay for access to games that I dev by myself, cos it's just me and there is only so much I can do by myself with adult life at play. The best I can achieve for myself is building a tribe of people who love my content just as much I as do, so all my yelling and promoting is mainly to extend my reach to their earshot, no matter who or where in the world they are.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The upcoming Return to Eternity game is too niche to have real marketability in the current gaming sphere. The rest of my planned games will probably be the same. I will probably stay very small for months if not years to come despite hard work, and that is fine. I only hope that anyone who plays my games enjoys themselves without having to sacrifice anything.
