As a way to celebrate Halloween, I would like to share my first devlog for my newest (newest?) game, Strange Journey Log!
First of all; what even is "Strange Journey Log"? Well, it was originally named Fazbear's Journey Log until recently, and the name was changed because I wanted to have a name less related to Freddy Fazbear directly.
Why is the game page so bland? Well, I'm still trying to figure out a way to make a flashy and stylish game page, so I'll need some time there.
What is the game about? I decided not to go very far from the game's original plan, back in 2023 when I first created it. Essentially, you travel to different locations from FNaF and FNaF fangames, and survive nights at those places! I also plan to be able to mix characters into other games so you can mess around with whoever you want, wherever you want!
The game was originally meant to be a sort of successor to Ultra Freddyverse after I cancelled that game due to heavy lack of motivation and other reasons. I ended up 'scrapping' the idea of Fazbear's Journey Log shortly after coming up with it, and I let the game page lay there, empty.
Now it's back! I've started developing it, changed its' name, set up a poll for it and even come up with some decent content to show you all today!
In the video I've placed on this post, I'm showing off Freddy and Bonnie's mechanics at max difficulty. I do not want to make many mechanics in this game far too similar to their original mechanics, so that's why they are acting a bit strange.
FREDDY
Freddy's mechanic is simple, but took me a while to make and it will probably be one of the most unique mechanics in the game given that you can actually see him move on the cameras and in the doorway.
Freddy will remain at the stage most of the time, but will occasionally activate. When he activates, you can see him walking on the cameras from the stage, to the party area, to the right hall, and in your doorway. Unlike other characters, Freddy will immediately walk into your office and end your game if he has the chance to. If the door is closed when he reaches it, he will make a sound to indicate himself being knocked back and will drain some power.
BONNIE
Bonnie's mechanic has a more diverse range of actions. While Freddy will simply walk in a straight line to the office, Bonnie does not have one set path.
Firstly, Bonnie will leave the show stage. When he does, he will move to either the party area, restrooms, or parts & service. He will continue to move between these areas for a bit until eventually entering either the left or right hallway. When he does, he will stick to his chosen path and walk down the office via the hall he selected. All you have to do to repel him is close the door he appears at, and he gives you a couple of seconds to do so.
Apart from Freddy Fazbear and Bonnie the Bunny, what else have I made in this game so far? Not all too much, just the main menu screen, the map screen where you pick a level, and the fnaf 1 location-
Did I mention, this game is almost 100% my works? Unlike Ultra Freddyverse, where I admittedly stole assets from other games, I actually developed all the assets in this game myself! There are a few exceptions; some sound effects like doors closing, camera flipping etc. were used from FNaF1 and other games. All the cameras I spent days painstakingly modelling and it all pays off! I also made the models for the characters.
That's all I've got for you for now! Tune in for more future devlogs.
