Blockouts, whiteboxing, greyboxing - whatever you call it, I've been doing it!
Now that the basic functionality of the Evidence and Testimonies screens is done, I decided to take a break from UI and plan the layout of the manor house.
I started on paper, as I usually tend to do, and hastily sketched bunches of rectangles that look like a discarded corporate 'blue sky thinking' presentation flipboard. They meant nothing to anyone else but me, but gave me a good starting point. After cleaning them up, I went into Unity and very literally placed blocks where each room, passage and staircase should be, just to make sure it all fitted together - and it did!

That's five floors of the house there (you can't see the basement from this angle), and I know what every room is and what (or who) is in it. I had to do a little tweaking here and there from the 2D sketches, but it's more-or-less the same.
Next step is to hollow out each block so that they are actually walkable spaces with walls and doorways between. While it looks and 'feels' about the right size at this stage, this will tell me if any rooms or corridors need scaling up or down.
Oh, and I got to call one of the blocks 'secret passage', which is a thrill beyond words :D
Tony.
