Today VortexVoid would like to announce the plans for creating a Kickstarter Campaign! Why you ask? There are several reasons. In order for Rive to reach its potential the following talent must be added:
Graphic Artist
Music Artist
Sound Artist
Multiplayer Developer
The committed effort of these people is needed in order for Rive to become the game it was meant to be. Ultimately, these positions, along with a server, require funding.
It would be preferable for the gaming community to help with this, strengthening gamers’ stake in the development of the game.
So, let’s clear up what Rive aims to be. Rive is a game in which the player lives in a simulated, suburban antimatter boomtown set in the 2050’s. As the player, you have the ability to choose a home as well as customize what’s inside of it. You are not locked into this home, you may move out at any time and can even be homeless.
When you go to sleep at night you have the option of entering a dream world set on a tropical island. This island will be full of wild animals, tribes, and countless resources. Also spread throughout the island are clues; these clues are in regard to Rive’s storyline which, to prevent spoiling it, can be summed up by saying that the town you live in has a very dark secret. Items you collect, as well as clues, translate to your life in the town and progress the storyline.
The defining feature of the town is the preferred mode of transportation: anticycle. The anticycle is a hovering vehicle that one stands on to get from one place to another. Essentially these replace cars, though they still are used on roads.
The town contains many blocks of houses as well as shops and a town hall park. There is plenty of things to buy and people to interact with, but beware the dangers of the new antimatter-powered technologies; fires can start quite easily. Without the quick action of the town fire department, your house may not have much left of it. That is not to say that fires can only be started indoors; crashing an anticycle will not only burn up the money you spent on it, but it will also burn up the street. Use caution - you don’t want to be labeled as a mischief-maker by the police.
All of these features will also be possible while playing with others. You can live in your town with a minimum of 8 other players. Just imagine all of the mischief you could get in: chaotic destruction, an alliance against your neighbor, a protest, a cult, dangerous joyrides, whatever you can think of really.
Lastly, don’t be shocked if you notice your neighbor has an extremely expensive antimatter pump powering their home despite their lack of wealth. Also, don’t be surprised to wake up in the middle of the night to find an explosive thrown through your window. As stated earlier, there is something dark going on in Rive and we hope you will help bring the light.
When you log into Rive servers you will be presented with countless sessions (towns) started by other players, some of which you can join. You will also have the option of starting your own town and you can choose if others can move in. These other players could be random or restricted to your friends.
P.S. A playable basic demo version will be released again soon.
