I’ve been a part of Sketchfab for a while, and like many of you, I initially loved the platform. It was a vibrant community for sharing, selling, and celebrating 3D art. But let’s be real—it’s not the platform it used to be.
When Epic Games acquired Sketchfab, it seemed promising at first. But since then, things have gone downhill. The focus shifted from supporting creators to prioritizing corporate goals, and the platform has become less about community and creativity.
Epic has completely ruined the marketplace's social aspect. Sketchfab used to feel like a community where artists and creators could connect and collaborate. Now, it’s just a shadow of what it was, with minimal interaction and support for sellers.
Let’s face it: the main traffic now comes from people looking for free assets or those using model-ripping extensions to steal your work. The respect for creators and their intellectual property seems to have evaporated.
With all the changes, the tools, features, and visibility for sellers have become worse, not better. For those of us relying on Sketchfab as a source of income, the returns just don’t justify the effort anymore.
There are other platforms where your work will be valued, your sales protected, and your artistic efforts appreciated. Why stay in a place that doesn’t have your back?
I know this decision isn’t easy—many of us have invested years into Sketchfab. But staying on a platform that’s no longer creator-friendly only harms us in the long run. By collectively removing our work, we send a message: creators deserve respect, protection, and a platform that works for them.
