In your opinion, what makes indie games so unique and captivating?

I just straight-up thought of this idea while fiddling with a calculator. Sorry for the shoddy copy-and-paste art, but I really wanted to express this idea. I feel like this could work if the levelling is paced properly, and could discourage grinding.


Hey, so I'm not dead.
It's been hard getting back into the swing of things, but I've just added a elevator to the catacombs.
By finding an item on the second floor you can access the elevator to move between floors.
