The Gatekeeper is a heavily FNaF-inspired game that takes the "watch the cameras, survive the night" concept straight to the gates of Creator's Grave, where "dangerous" souls who weren't yet ready to move on are held until they can finally rest.
The game will have a devlog posted on the last day of every month, and a poll posted on the first day of every month. The poll's results will determine what is revealed about the game in the following month.
--- Basics ---
Equipped with nothing but cameras, a flashlight, and a shock mechanism, your goal is to stop these ghosts from escaping Creator's Grave. How can they escape? The gate, of course. That's why you're the Gatekeeper! Unlike your foes, you're being paid to be here, and you sure do like that paycheck. Who could blame you? Someone has to do it.
--- General Controls ---
Generic point-and-click mechanics always have their place in FNaF-inspired games, and The Gatekeeper is no exception.
The flashlight mechanics will be much like other flashlights you've seen, following the mouse around. Still, The Gatekeeper is a little bit different. The flashlight will have two settings, a low-beam setting in order to actually see your foes before you determine the proper course of action, and the high-beam, which has different effects based on the situation. The high-beam can be activated with a click of the mouse.
--- What are my goals for this game? ---
My goals are simply to get it done, but I also want to include a few extra things to try and make this game fit to my liking. I'm not trying to impress anyone, I just want to learn something new, and try my hand at making a game similar to the one that caught my attention so many years ago.
Part of my plan is to have things like animated cutscenes for each character, and some post-night story, since there's only so much I can convey from a phone call.
