Hi...
I want to start of with... damn this game is relaxing and beautiful.
I've always loved ping pong type of games, I just find them relaxing and... just relaxing.
I love the pixel art style and the atmosphere.
I don't know how game reviews work since I never made one... in terms of leaving comment like this one.
But I've made a list of features and rated them from 1-10;
Main Menu - 10/10. The main menu was done incredibly well and the art style behind it is amazing! Just one question... why is there a giant skull in the woods?
Tutorial - 4..5../10. My notes make no sense. Whatever, besides the game being quite self-explanatory, a tutorial of the UI would be nice to have (e.g. what each stone or gem does when being hit by the ball, or the countdowns).
UI - 10/10. UI looks good. In my opinion it is perfect and doesn't need much tweaking.
Gameplay - 10/10. It's a ping pong game, there's no reason to put anything lower for this except for the next section...
Story - 2/10. There isn't much of a story and although, yes it's a ping pong game at the end of the day, some sort of short, mini story would be nice to have.
Art - 9/10. As already mentioned before, art is well-made except it felt a bit gloomy. Now, I don't know if this was my monitor or not, but maybe some sort of darkness slider or something like that would be nice have in the settings.
Sound Effects - 10/10. Nothin' much to say. The rating tells you everything that I have to say.
Music - 9/10. The music was nice and relaxing and found it very comfortable with the game itself. There was one issue though, when a soundtrack ends, it ends very suddenly causing a bit of a cut which makes it very obvious that it ended. A nice fade out at the end should do the job.
Uniqueness - 11/10. Nope. That isn't a typo... 11/10 - Never came across a ping pong game like this one.
Replayability - 9/10. I think the upgrades for the starter character were very few and a bit expensive. Though as I mentioned before, the game is very relaxing.
Customization - 9/10. I found the volume a bit too low, even on max settings (in game). I have checked my computer volume, and it was also pretty high. A much bigger range of volume might do better (for example, 0-10 instead of 0-2).
A feature that I think would be nice to have, would be some sort of skins or upgrades for the slider... bar... whatever it's called (the yellow platform thingy). Maybe you can shoot out multiple balls at once or have extended reach. Something like that would be very neat to have.
Bugs - 1... just found one... when hitting a chest and the upgrade shop window pops up, my cursor is invisible until I press a key.
Overall I gave this game a 47/60 rating... out of 60?.. why did I choose that number.
This review was written based on notes I had written down one a piece of paper while playing this game that's why I'm.. being weird.
Whatever - Good game overall, would love to see more of it, and can't wait for the final release.
P.S. I love your games and as a game developer myself, I strive to construct as amazing games as yours =) God, I wish I didn't choose JavaScript as a language to learn.
