Summary:
Harmonic Life is a game which you have to collect shells that the sea brings to you. You can sell them and use the money to buy presents to the people that you meet at the beach, so you can know their story.
The addictive mechanics and lighthearted environment were inspired by Harvest Moon.

Controls:

  • You only need to use your mouse.

  • There are buttons on the screen to move your camera.

  • Click on objects or characters to interact with them.

  • Everytime the application opens, it will auto-load from where the player last saved. However, there is no auto-save.
    (More tips and tricks at the end of the description).

The development:
The beginning of the project was at Global Game Jam 2017, which the theme was "Wave".
It was around 48h to make the art (at Global Game Jam), and around more two days to reprogram the entire game and add three new characters.
The game is short. Probably a person that doesn't know anything about the game will finish it in more than one hour or two.
I finished it in 45min, knowing every detail of the game.

Tips and tricks:
It's part of the gameplay to make the player learn the mechanics by themselves, but if there is someone that wants to know what to expect, or doesn't understand something, I will write some tips:

  • Every shell has a different sale price.

  • You can't sell garbage or sell things you bought.

  • To get rid of garbage, you can throw it away in the garbage can. That doesn't give you any bonus.

  • To open the Inventory, click in the square besides the "Hand" text.

  • To close the Inventory, click outside the Inventory window.

  • To put an item into your Hand, just open the Inventory, select the item, and then close the Inventory.

  • To give a present to a character, just click on them while holding the item you want to give.

  • Every character has different taste. Everyone has a list of things they "love", they "like" and they "dislike".

  • If you give something they "love", their affection will rise more than if you just give something they "like"

  • There is no penalty to give something that a character dislikes (it will give +0 affection).

  • Right before the character's affection "level up" , they will refuse any present. You just need them to leave the beach. This will make them "level up".

  • When you reach the maximum hearts of a character, the sea may bring a special item.

  • When you give that special item to its respective character, you unlock a "special dialogue", and then you become real friends with that character.

  • You can't sell or discard a special item.

  • You can't give the special item to the wrong person.

  • There are some characters that can't accept their special item in certain times of the day.

  • Every character has a weekly routine.

  • You can click on the shack to pass 8 hours and then save.

  • Not only you can buy items from the character that you sell the shells, but you also can buy items from the Vending Machine at the right of the beach.

  • To complete the game, you have to befriend every character, and see everyone's "special dialogue".

  • Once in a while, there may be bugs of characters not leaving the beach or whatever, to briefly fix that, you can use the shack or just click on Save and then Load. (This may fix the bug, but if not, please report the problem to me with a message or something).
