What do you think?

We need a full version SMB Konamized

is not there option

Good 👍

I don't know about zoom 4:3

When I first found out about your channel and a lot of these games, I was excited. the presentation for all of these is genuinely amazing, and the speed at which these things were made kind of blew my mind. but having actually gone and played them, I couldn't help but feel disappointed by the actual gameplay, and I'd like to go into why

First of all PLEASE consider revamping the controls and physics completely because they are Terrible. Z to run and X to jump is kinda weird when most platformers I've played with keyboard have it the other way around, but it's something I could get used to (although an option to change controls would be nice). But I simply cannot look past the way Mario actually controls.

To go into exactly what I dislike, firstly, there is no limit to how low Mario can jump. If you press the jump button for few enough frames you don't even jump a single tile high, which is something I've never seen in any other platformer and it kind of just sucks because sometimes I like tapping the buttons really quickly. There's also a certain point when jumping where Mario will jump as high as he can regardless of whether you stop holding the jump button. I don't even know how something like that happens. It led to so many unnecessary stupid deaths.

And the fact that every single one of these games you made all use the exact same physics make the package feel very ameteur. Very cheap and unpolished. Like I can't stress enough how insufferable they were, I genuinely struggle to think of a game I've played that controls worse than these. Not to mention another thing I noticed, also across every game, if you're holding a button down before actually loading into gameplay, it doesn't register. So like imagine if you die and then you prematurely hold down the buttons to keep running and move right like you probably would do in any other Mario game. it Doesn't Work you have to unpress and repress both buttons. It made those annoying deaths all the more unbearable

I'm also not a fan of the collision in these games. Sometimes Mario's jump would clip walls if you stand directly next to them and his jump would be intercepted. Very annoying, esp for SMB Scrolled Edition which is a game entirely based around autoscrollers (We'll Get There). Enemies also had annoying collision, namely Piranha Plants. The entirety of their sprite is a hitbox. If they come out of a pipe (which they WILL do before you can even realize they're there because piranha plants simultaneously take an eternity to come out of a pipe when they first load AND aren't affected by you standing close to/on top of the pipe when they first load), you'll take damage frame 1. It's an absolute nightmarish headache

As for the games themselves, I will give them credit, the art, music and sound design are all gorgeous. These games have incredible presentation. But the level design felt very stunted and lacked flow. The only games I genuinely enjoyed the level design of, and just in general, were Konamized and Scrolled Edition. Konamized just has good level design, and Scrolled Edition's levels really do feel like they were designed with the autoscroll in mind.

I want to put out there that I think Scrolled Edition was, ironically, probably my favorite game here. In addition to the levels being solid, it required the least engagement with the garbage controls, and the way it utilizes multiple forms of autoscrolling across each level is really cool. Notably I really liked the cave levels with a low time limit that just took place on one screen. I presume this was in some way inspired by Game & Watch SMB, which is awesome. But I couldn't help but find the final two levels absolutely abysmal.

The scrolling on the second last level was honestly nauseating. The way it moved in increments of one tile every second or half second or smth made the gameplay so disorienting that I genuinely felt a migraine coming on. It's so bad it's like, did you even play the game?? And the fact it ends with a MARIO MAKER-ASS PICK A PIPE that KILLS YOU of all things is absolutely disgusting. This is how game designers go to hell.

The actual lest level was fine, I liked the way it scrolled, but then at the very end of the stage just before Bowser it kicks back into the insufferable scrolling from the level prior and it threw me off and I died and UGHHHHHH GOD I liked the rest of the game but the castle stages made me want to lick a cactus

So yeah tl;dr wasn't really a fan. I'm not sure exactly how experienced you are in this field but I'd highly HIGHLY recommend going back and tweaking the controls and some of the level design in games other than Konamized, most of Scrolled Edition and maybe SMA5 idk

Description of highlights: Fourth Batch

  • Super Mario Bros. Flash - A game that blends mouse, arcade, and classic Super Mario games, and of course, the style of the beloved Super Mario World. This game will be much bigger! The mouse won't be as prominent here, but I believe many will enjoy it. It will soon be renamed Super Mario Bros. Click! It will be released outside of the special pack. You can play as both Mario and Luigi in the game. It uses the Source Engine from the animation "Super Mario Bros. - The Bowser Wars". The rev 0.1 fixes a bug from platform.

  • Super Mario Bros. Wonderland '87 + Bellabel Challenge - Based on "Super Mario Bros. Wonder - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Bellabel Park", this is Bellabel Challenge! It differs from the official Swtich 2 version by focusing on single-player and challenges. This demo version of Bellabel Challenge only includes 8 sample levels, as the game is still in development. The Super Mario Bros. Wonderland '87 mode is complete and includes extras! Collect as many purple coins as possible and try waiting at the beginning of some rooms for rewards. Collecting many "wonderful" flagpoles can result in a new bonus minigame. The rev 0.1 post update version add the new "Super Flower Pot" (Flower transformation) to both modes, little update to 0.2 to fix a platform bug. Check for more information about this new version of the fan game by pressing F1 during gameplay.

  • VS. Mario is Missing! - This is a well-known game... but now portrayed in a very different way than we know it. I don't consider it a remake because there are completely new levels, new scenarios, and music. The purpose is to make sense of the original context and add a new way to play while maintaining the same essence, at least of the original NES version. Oh, these strange "Bowser" creatures are now "Fake Bowsers". Furthermore, the gameplay style is similar to VS. Unisystem, which were the NES arcade machines, many of which had differences in gameplay mechanics.
