Hey, everyone! This is Neon-Gr33n here, are you ready for this month's devlog? ...no? wait, yes? ah, I must have misheard you the first time then, haha. anway, while this will be somewhat of a smaller devlog compared to the previous ones, we're excited to share what we have in store nonetheless, so with that being said- onward to the devlog!
Programming
We've added Discord's "Rich Presence" as a supported feature to GRITFELL! (as pictured above) simply put, this means that while you're exploring the world of GRITFELL, your activity status on Discord will update with new information to match your progress! It can even show your current and remaining HP during combat
We've also changed the save UI, for what we believe is the final time, here's a mock-up image of the UI in question, now you can know exactly which file you have loaded, what room you are in, who is following you, your currently accumulated EXP and GOLD! there will definitely be some polish added to it when it is finished, for example, an icon next to the time display.
Side note, we have "dynamic music" for the title screen now! you may have noticed a few variants of "your story begins" being added to the game page, composed by wavefq, these are used on the title screen and will play depending on how much progress you've made in the game, like how Undertale's menu theme builds on itself the further along in the story you are.
What about the mobile support?
Right! This is a topic that hasn't been properly discussed as of yet. While it isn't a large priority at this moment in time, I can safely say that we are definitely going to be able to make a mobile port for GRITFELL, including the controller support we have promised.
I recently got a hold of the "Indie" license for GameMaker: Studio 2, which means we can now export to Android! ^^
As such, I've started work on some of the objects needed for mobile, including the joystick, the mobile buttons have not been programmed yet, but visual assets have been designed.
As a side note, the in-game borders will be on by default in the mobile port to fill screen space, and just overall make the game look prettier on your device, and will not be able to be toggled off for practicality reasons.
Neglected Tunnels functionality??
Ah, yeah! can't forget this either, currently, we are reworking our lighting system to not only look and feel better, but to perform better, we've also been working hard at getting enemy encounter working the way we want them to, in addition, we've been working towards completing the functionality of the major events within the neglected tunnels, including cutscenes, puzzles, so on so forth.
Writing
While we do have the majority of the script for the Neglected Tunnels finished, we've been going through and adjusting some lines recently, specifically some that didn't match the tone we wanted to convey, and also giving a certain lonely flower more involvement in the story, albeit, in a good way.
We've outlined the entirety of Chapter 2 as of now and have the majority of main cast character arcs written and planned out.
Music
Remember how we mentioned dynamic music before? this is one of the new tracks made specifically for the title screen's dynamic music ^^
The "City of Old" was only ever mentioned in Undertale, but now, you'll have the opportunity to explore it for yourself! ^^
A boss theme for a certain goat woman
A boss theme for a certain goat woman when you try to [[REDACTED]]
We also have a few tracks ready for Chapter 2
both tracks shown here were made by Luggi
Overworld theme for the royal guard sentry, sans!
Snowdin City's theme!
And now for something that's also really exciting!
BIG REVEALS
You may have seen these in the game page media section already, but these are the official designs for some of our characters + their lore! ^^
Papyrus himself, the leader of the Royal Guard! you'll be seeing plenty of him in Chapter 2
sans! a Royal Sentry, you'll also be meeting him in Chapter 2
And again, these folks are also monsters you'll meet in Chapter 2, the monsters in the Skull Mafia are not the kind of monsters you want to mess with.
