As of late, I've noticed the understandable confusion over the addition of characters such as the Unbeatable gang and Ballyhoo.
And instead of keeping y'all in the dark, I figured now's a better time than ever to not only clear any confusion, but to also give y'all a bigger taste of Lament's story:
First, Ballyhoo. During the time when Bruno gambled at casinos to get money for Eve, one of the casinos he went to was owned by Ballyhoo.
The two had a poker game and Bruno lost the last amount of money. Later on during the events of Lament when Bruno is having his trial with Emma, Hallyboo makes an appearance, being a twisted version of Ballyhoo who exists as a reminder of Bruno's mistake of gambling his money away.
Now for the Unbeatable gang. To give some context, Nintendo exists in this Lament's universe. It's a bit confusing, but to put it in the best of words, the characters from their games are real people who they signed on to base games off them, such as Mario. Because of this, the unbeatable commercial exists in this universe, leading to Bruno watching it with Eve one night.
A common story beat throughout Lament's cutscenes is that Bruno is jealous of the successful people around him, leading to him wishing to be like the people Nintendo would base games off of. This leads him to the whole "losing all his money in casinos" thing, even before Even gets sick.
He wants money to use it so he can get to a high enough status, that way he can become like the people he was jealous of. Then the Unbeatable gang show up in Bruno's trials as a reminder from Emma.
A reminder that, instead of trying to be something he wasn't, and financially crippling his family, he should've been happy with what he had.
That's about it, I understand if people will still treat me like a punching bag or a joke because "the story is goofy". But eh, I'm at least glad I could make this known, wether people will like what I have planned or not
