Why I Took So Long

Hello everyone. It's been a while since the last devlog. For those who don't know, after the third devlog, I paused development to work on another game. However, after a bout of demotivation, I got sidetracked and made a different game, Maltigi: Brother Collector, which can be playable here.

Anyways, after finishing Maltigi: Brother Collector, I continued development on this other game. I ended up just restarting the whole thing. If you are interested in why, read this post.

After that whole debacle, I realized that I had taken much longer than I thought I would, and I decided to just finish up the Week 2 Demo before resuming.

Elevator Weekend Minigame Section

I have coded in the elevator weekend section. It plays similarly to the main game, except it is not time-based. In the main game, you wait until 6 AM to beat the night, but in the elevator section, you have to complete 50 minigames to beat it. That may seem like a lot, but don't worry. In the elevator section, there are elevator-exclusive minigames which do not take as much time and effort to complete as the main game's minigames.

Elevator Minigame #1: Enter Code

The first elevator-exclusive minigame is one in which you press numbered buttons to enter a code of random length into the Car Operating Panel (that thing in elevators where the buttons are). The order of the buttons are also randomized. Press the wrong button, and you will have to start again.

Elevator Minigame #2: Memory

The next elevator-exclusive minigame is a memory game. You are given a glimpse at a set of randomly assorted buttons, then their matching features will be hidden. Match the numbers and colors of the buttons to win the minigame. If you mess up, do not worry, you are given three chances.

Elevator Minigame #3: Copy The Picture

The last elevator-exclusive minigame is one in which you have to copy a picture down by toggling buttons. If you do exactly that, you win.


Besides the minigames, this section introduces a new character. This elevator-exclusive character will hide at first, until you find them crawling down the elevator shaft toward your car. They will then fall onto your car, and you will have to react quick. As soon as they get back up, you will have a short amount of time to shock them before they begin cutting your cables. Shocking them will send them flying back up the elevator shaft.

If they manage to damage or even cut any of the cables, you can repair them with your repair panel, but if all of the cables are cut, then you lose the night, and are moved to the next one. If you finish the 50 minigames, you are given a journal entry for your efforts, and you are moved to the next night.

Journals

I'm working on the journals, which are collectables that you can find in-game by doing certain things. As of now, I haven't written any entries yet, but I have coded in the page collection. The Journals in the game as of now are:

  • Daily Entries: Giuseppe writing about his days in the mysterious buildings. Pages are collected by beating a night in the main game.

  • Book of Stars: Entries of assorted topics. Pages are collected by getting the star of the night.

  • Book of Evil: Stories and evil plans written by Evil Giuseppe. Pages are collected by dying to Evil Giuseppe on each night.

  • Book of Antonio: Entries written by Antonio. Pages are collected by dying to Antonio on each night.

  • The Sheldonomicon: A bible that explains the lore of the universe, although distorted through Mariosheldonborg's eyes. Pages are collected by dying to Mariosheldonborg on each night (after Week 1).

  • Distant Memories: Stories written by Giuseppe which happened before the incident. Pages are collected by beating a night in the elevator.

  • Who Are These Guys: Crossover stuff. I'm not exactly sure about how these pages will be collected.

  • Book of Gonzalo: Entries written by Gonzalo. Pages are collected by dying to Gonzalo on each night (after Week 3).

  • Book of Riccardo: Entries written by Riccardo. Pages are collected by dying to Riccardo on each night (after Week 3).

You might be confused by some of these, so I will elaborate on them.

For the Book of Stars, if you weren't aware, every night you are given 5 minigames. If you complete these minigames in the night you are assigned them, then a star will appear in one of your cameras. Collect it to get an entry in the Book of Stars, among another thing.

Pill Evil Giuseppes

Since there will be a fourth week, I've decided to implement all of the available Pill Evil Giuseppes into the game. I have also slightly changed some of their mechanics. Here are the ones who have changed.

Since the Week 2 demo is coming out on April 1st, There will not be a March devlog. After the Week 2 demo drops, I will be redoing the art again.

Next up

Haven't worked on this game for so long that I forgot about the things I put in the game.

I just opened the project and jumpscared myself with the pickle slot variable.

Currently, I am working on another update for Maltigi: Brother Collector. I am hoping to get it out in time for my second spawn day.

The Week 2 Demo has been released!

I finished remodeling Party Room 2 which is now the Arcade!

I'm glad I was able to complete this by the end of the day because I can finally begin to wrap up the 'super big secret' I've been teasing for 11 months now..
