Devlog on the Plus

Good time of day.

I hope you all enjoyed the exclusive March 32nd game build. It was definitely not an April Fools-related thing, and all effort was put! ;)

A Retrospective

Now jokes aside, I'd like to thank everyone who's been following this project since its beginning. This game has been under five months of development after the reboot in December which is... rather crazy than believable. To consider this all began in late 2020 along with some jokes with my friends, to make a deluxe/plus edition of the game, and to actually put effort into it... yeah.

I'm not sure if I'm being comfortable with where the game development status is at the moment, however, I am really happy with it. Not gonna lie, though: I want to get it out of my head as soon as I finish development. I mean, I think I had more than enough on developing this game. I am being honest with you all -- I expected to release the game in March. Unfortunately, the game is not really near to being released yet. Do I think that I could do better things than this? Yes, but when I promise that something comes, it's going to come.

Reviewing the Plus

So, what about the game? I do believe that the game development has been really slow, however, I think all the essentials are finished. You might ask, though: what could we expect about this deluxe/plus edition? Once again, I'm going to give you a bit of information on what you all are going to have.

All-Stars, the campaign/story mode

"All-Stars consists of a campaign mode where you play as the protagonist, known as Kostas, as you face certain people until you front the final boss. Will our hero reach the very end and stop his past self's plans? It's up to you!"

image.png

In All-Stars, you'll get the scenario of playing as Kostas and fight 10 people until you front the two antagonists, being Old Kostas and Thanos. You will expect to see those characters speak to each other before the fight, to give you some story. The difficulty will go up with every boss you take out.

At the moment I haven't done much for All-Stars but the concept of it is already done. I do believe it's going to be easy to code it, apart from the dialogues pre-battle. I do believe that a campaign mode was needed for the game as the first game you fought for no reason at all.

Classic Mode, the game mode you all know and love

"Classic Mode is the redesigned game mode where you can choose your own custom battle on your own terms. Just like the previous game, but with more customization! Who will your hero be? Who will the villain be? It's up to you!"

image.png

In Classic mode, you will be able to take fights as you did on the original game, but you will be able to customize and select features like:

  • Your character and your enemy: you'll have the possibility to choose both your own character and your enemy. There are up to 20 characters to choose from!

    image.png
  • Your difficulty: either you're a noob or a pro, you'll get the possibility to choose between easy, normal, or hard.

    image.png
  • Your music track: this will be the song you'll hear during taking a fight. There are up to 15 music tracks to choose from!

    image.png
  • Your stage: this will be the scenario you'll be battling at. There are up to 10 stages to choose from!

Challenges

I cannot joke when I say that this has just come to my head literally just now. However, I do think it's necessary for the game. Previously, in the original game, there was a section of the game called 'game modes'. This consisted of:

  • Time Limit; where you'll have a specific amount of time to beat the boss until it's too late;

  • Hard Mode: where the difficulty would be almost unbeatable;

  • Survival Mode: where you have to survive your boss' attacks for a specific period of time.

Well, I don't think I would do a good job if I didn't make them return, after all, they were quite fun modes, despite I totally forgot about them until I remembered recently. I believe I can improve those and make something better of it. It would be no surprise however that I could release this post-release, as I'm not sure if I would have the time enough to implement this.

Gameplay

Unfortunately, I cannot show any images of gameplay due to the lack of things on the screen and other non-functional stuff that have to be fixed later on. However, I can say that gameplay has been improved a lot compared to the original game.

To begin with, you will no longer be allowed to spam the attack. Your character will take a bit to shoot, so you will need to be strategical. Secondly, and to lower the difficulty more than it is currently, you'll have a temporary shield that you can only use at some times. The shield will only keep you safe for a few seconds until it gets off for a period of time until you can enable it once again. I have to improve the system of it, but it's going that way. I will also try to make the enemy have different ways to attack, but that's gonna be a little too hard -- we'll see.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the game be released? I cannot give an exact game release due to the development of the game being very unexpected at times. However, I would be happy if the game gets released before June.

Will you add more content later on, such as DLCs like the original game? Besides the Challenges section (in the case it doesn't make it to the first-day release), most likely not. I think I had more than enough pain to give proper effort, and adding more content to the game would be a step back.

Will we get a demo to play before the game's release? I'm not planning to make the game playable before release to anyone besides my close friends to game-test the game or just to enjoy it earlier. I don't think I should go to the typical formula of "I'll make a demo so people get to play it early and I get the attention early" while it's just a few things you can play and then the "End of demo" thing. So annoying.

Will we get a game trailer any time soon? Probably. Once gameplay is done and I have a bit of All-Stars, I could think of doing a game trailer for it, but I cannot confirm that I will do it. However, there will be a launch trailer once the game is released, just like how it happened with the original game.

What will you do next after you're done with the game? I'm not sure, to be honest. I would like to completely move on from doing fangames and start my indie game developer future, while I also want to do a Sonic/Exe game that I always wanted to do since I joined the community. I have been working on other projects in the past already, most of them are just testing purposes only, but I cannot say what my future views are.

That is it, ladies and gentlemen. I think I said more than enough information that most of you would like to hear. I do know that this is just a silly joke game, but if I am making posts like this, it's because there is a lot of effort being put in here. I must thank all those following this project for having the patience and to have enjoyed this journey so far. The lack of motivation had stopped me a bit from developing some time ago, but I am happy where this is going.

I'll see you then!
