Here are my rules, if it follows it's automatically equal or more than 4 stars:
The film caters to its intended demographic.
The film does not encourage harmful actions and if ever has said harmful action, mitigates the effects by providing a reasonable motive or a successful redemption factor.
For slapstick comedy, the film doesn't overuse the device to the point of obscurity.
The film has at least ONE good moral, good enough to overshadow any other petty morals it may teach.
The film doesn't use romance as a disposable sub-plot.
The film does NOT pander to any trend, if ever it does; it has to put a unique spin on it in a way that forwards the plot else: recycle bin.
For horror movies; the film is creepy and/or disturbing without using excessive gore. Use good sound design and ambiance with a topic vaguely interesting. Psuedo-thriller horrors are excused.
The protagonist is not a jerk. That should not be the attitude of your role model. If you're planning for a redemption arc, focus on ONE flaw, if you cannot fix all then don't add said flaw.
Don't abuse the plot twist device.
Cringe is unforgivable if it feels forced. If the character/actor is having fun doing it, it's excusable.
The film does not abuse the 'for kids' demographic as a way of spreading harmful misinformation and cognito-hazards.
The film is a passion project and the crew is having fun.
Now what do ya'll think of a Minecraft movie so far?
