Game
Cyan

I've decided to start making Cyan devlogs since I like it when on-development games give me frequent update posts.

So, if you want more information about the game feel free to read the article.

CURRENT STATE:

After releasing a private Cyan demo to some friends, I got a lot of useful feedback and discovered that there where many aspects of the game that needed improvements or reworks.

Changing the game in this way made me question my original vision for Cyan which led up to me taking a break from making it for a long time. Now I want to continue its development in a way that helps me make a better game.

These are the most relevant issues with Cyan in its current state:

  • Even if the story is completed it hasn't been written down anywhere, it's all in my head, this is not okay for a story heavy game.

  • This is a type of game I've never made. I should've started with something smaller to test things first so Cyan can be as good as possible.

  • I want to make all my games open source and there is a lot of things in the Cyan codebase that I want to change before that.

This is how I want to fix these issues:

  • Write down the full story, including how all the moments relate to the game directly detailing not only the plot but everything the player does while going through the story through the game mechanics.

  • Test the waters by making a shorter horror rpg that will also be used to rewrite and refine Cyan's code, killing two birds with one stone.

FUTURE PLANS:

While I'm working on this Godot-horror-rpg-template-project-thing that will later be used to develop Cyan I will post a devlog every other week to help me keep a schedule since I've found that it's easier for me to work on something when I have a schedule and a deadline. Because of that I'm setting a release date for the template and once that’s done, I'll set a release date for Cyan.

RELEASE DATE:

  • I want to release the Godot rpg template before the end of the year.

  • I will set a release date for Cyan after the template is released.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Cyan will release on GameJolt, Itch·io and maybe Steam (I need to figure out how releasing games on Steam works).

  • Cyan is not meant to be a product, just a game, because of that the game will be completely free and open source.

I love seeing how much a game can change during development.

Madeline is the main protagonist of the mountain climbing platformer, Celeste. The game has been praised for its visuals, gameplay, and introspective narrative. The game's creator Maddy Thorson confirmed that Madeline is trans in 2020.

Dive into the cozy post-apocalyptic open world of Critter Cove!

Gentleman Rat Studios (@GR-Rob ) describe it as “a little bit Animal Crossing, a little bit Stardew Valley. Maybe even a little bit Windwaker, too."

A little character doodle!

Mae Borowski is the main character of Night in the Woods! It's an adventure game that tells the story of her return to her hometown of Possum Springs. She was confirmed as canonically pan in a social media post by the game's creator Scott Benson.

I've been experimenting with a creepy art-style.
