The main reason for my dissatisfaction is that they all look exactly the same, none of them vary, not even in their methods or style, they don't innovate in any way whatsoever, and on top of that, much of the setting surrounding these games is brutally exaggerated.
SATANISM AND DARK THEMES
Something that's a bit off-putting is the theme of Satanism in relation to FNAF fangames, which genuinely doesn't fit very well, not because they're dark themes, many horror games can do this, but with FNAF, the issue is that they are completely different things. There is no clear connection, to the point that it sounds ridiculous.
Something similar, moving away from FNAF and into ‘Animatronics’ in general, is Willy's Wonderland, where the theme of satanic rituals and such seemed too absurd.
Returning to the topic of FNAF fangames, the only game that really knew how to implement this was Malrat's The Lost Ones, a cult game with a dark theme, but it had a limit, otherwise it would seem absurd, unlike many fan games out there that believe that having an exaggeratedly dark theme makes them unique.
RANSOMWARE, BORING AND REPETITIVE
The ransomware effect was interesting at the time when its full potential was realised, but of course, like all fads, it has gradually lost its essence, to the point where I can directly compare it to the FNaF VHS tapes. The community now believes that FNaF games are scary in this way, and although they have a certain charm or work behind the models a perfect example is FNAF REMAKE by Marco Antonio, a pretty cool game with pretty unique style, but when a game does this, with a saturated filter, it is genuinely boring if there is no innovation. It is like applying the same things, the same models, and the same style to absolutely everything. It hurts to see, but of course, there is always the excuse that ‘it is different and unique, and it is my style.’
Let me tell you that just because something is unique DOES NOT MAKE IT GOOD
HORROR GAMES AND HOW IT DOESNT WORK
It turns out that creating a horrible aesthetic and theme with graphics that, intentionally or not, end up being awful, does not make up for all the other things that make up a video game, and no, it's not an excuse to say that it's to make them look like games from the 2000s, because it would be blasphemous to say such a thing to justify a game with horrible gameplay, a terrible story, and absolutely no development whatsoever. It's genuinely a disgrace.
WHERE AM I GOING WITH THIS?
I invite you all to try different and much more innovative art styles. Falling into a boring aesthetic generates boredom and, moreover, conformism on the part of the artist, preventing the growth and expansion of skills. Try to create something innovative, much more fun and terrifying. Try to create much more interesting stories that hook people. They do not necessarily have to be long stories; sometimes the best things can be presented in summary form. but to do that, you need to experiment and step outside your comfort zone.
