How to get rid of the default icon of my exported PGMMV games (only for private use!)
First, download my game (s)'s zip files (currently, there nothing to download here yet, since the first game is still in the works (and perhaps in development hell due to missing the GPU, which is the thing that is required to access the PGMMV engine's Project Settings (probably))). Unzip the zip file of the game (s) into a certain location on your PC (It can be anywhere you want, but please avoid the C: disk)
Then download a copy of the Resource Hacker software here. But you must agree to its Terms and Conditions first before you continue. (Don't worry, use it for just personal use within your PC is OK)
Then open Resource Hacker and in it, open the "player" executable file.
Then click on its icon, and in the Action tab, choose "Replace Icon".
Note that in the files of the game, there is a folder that reads "CustomEssentials" that contains a shortcut to the game (see more below), an .ico file of the game's alternative icon and a README file for how to use the resources found there. Navigate to that file and click on the icon, which is of the filename "game_name.ico" (game_name is the codename of the game; for example, this game (Daimonic Affright) has the codename of SPM01).
Click on "Replace".
Then save it as "game_name.exe" (game_name is explained above).
Create a shortcut of the "player" executable that have its icon replaced with the alternative one, and rename it to the game's name. (for example, if the game_name is SPM01, then rename the shortcut to "Daimonic Affright" or "Touhou Seijoshi: Kitai Monogatari ~ Daimonic Affright" (if you like the Touhou way of naming games as seen in the Steam version of such games) (Don't forget to add the "Demo" after the game's name if that game's README (not the README found in the CustomEssentials) states that it is the demo version of that game!)
And done! Have fun!
For those who see the default game controller icon looks okay, and see what makes up a game's appearance is its content not its executable's icon, then as I said above, there is a shortcut to the "player" executable in the "CustomEssentials" folder, and the shortcut is renamed to the game's name (in a manner that is influenced by the naming of Touhou games' Steam shortcuts) as well as with the icon replaced by that of the alternative icon. Just move the shortcut to the "Desktop" folder, and... Have fun!
Note: This is a tip that you can only use for copies of my games that have been installed on your PC's drive. DO NOT redistribute the modified game files anywhere! That is against the Terms of Service of Pixel Game Maker MV! If you plan to do the alternative way (which is not changing the "player" executable's icon and instead put the shortcut of the "player" executable to the "Desktop" folder), you are free to redistribute my games anywhere, but if you plan to redistribute my games on Steam, ask me for permission at my Email address!
That's a useful tip that you should know. But please keep in mind that this tip only apply for your personal use with the files of my games (and to a greater extent, any game made with PGMMV) that have been installed on your computer. No redistributation of the modified game files.
To @LUKELCS . I hope you appreciate this tip!
